It was a timely success by Tyne Cot with New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds quickly approaching, commencing on 18 & 19 November at Karaka with Breeze Ups held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 19 & 20 October.

The Ready to Run Sale produced 19 stakes wins last season alone, the most of any comparable sale in Australasia, including four Group 1 wins, the only Sale of its kind to produce a Group 1 winner in the season.

A winner of six races from 17 starts, this was Tyne Cot’s first stakes win. The son of Keeper finished an unlucky fourth in the 2013 Group 1 Easter Handicap, showing his potential before injuries slowed down his progress.

Trained by Neil Connors, Tyne Cot won fresh up this season in August at Hawke’s Bay before a fast finishing fifth placing at his last start, also at Hawke’s Bay.

Starting from an inside barrier, race-favourite Tyne Cot went forward in the early stages for rider Sam Spratt, settling in fifth position on the fence. Improving turning for home, Tyne Cot raced four deep at the top of the straight, chasing leader Kindaleica (NZ) (Captain Rio) who broke away from the field.

Tyne Cot powered home in the final stages to overhaul a brave Kindalecia to gain victory by a long head with Vincent Street (NZ) (Darci Brahma) finishing in third place.

The seven-year-old gelding has earned $126,400 since debuting as a three-year-old for owners E M Connors and C Connors.

Tyne Cot was purchased by Kevin Myers at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2010 Ready to Run Sale for $12,000 from Regal Farm.

Bred by Our Good Life Syndicate, Tyne Cot is out of the unraced mare Flanders Fields (Traditionally), a half-sister to the dam of stakes-winner Iffwedance (Iffraaj), winner of the Listed New Zealand St Leger. The son of Keeper is from the same family as Group 1 winner Fun On The Run (Racing is Fun), the dam of three-time Group 1 winner Tall Poppy (Kaapstad).

Other winning graduates of NZB’s Ready to Run Sale this weekend include Arraignment (NZ) (Nom du Jeu), Hearts Keeper (NZ) (Keeper) and War Pig (NZ) (Sufficient) successful in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Graduates were also successful over the weekend in Singapore with the likes of Bahana (NZ) (Elusive City), Bring Money Home (NZ) (Mr. Nancho), Keep Spinning (NZ) (Keeper), Laser Storm (NZ) (Lucky Owners), Rory (NZ) (Rusty Spur), Sir Reginald (NZ) (Red Giant) and Tip Of Borneo (NZ) (Red Giant).
