Tomorrowland Looks Towards G1 Railway Stakes

Karaka graduate Tomorrowland (NZ) (Fast ‘n’ Famous) added further depth to his pedigree on Friday after sprinting to black-type victory in the $50,000 Listed Chaineys Panasonic Levin Stakes (1200m) at Otaki.

Tomorrowland has a half-sister by Savabeel entered in the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale at Lot 434 from Waikato Stud.

The Danica Guy trained son of Fast ‘n’ Famous has been a winner over 1200m and 1400m with this his second stakes success after winning the Listed Shaw’s Wire Ropes Spring Handicap last year. Tomorrowland has run in stakes company in his four previous starts this season including being runner-up in the Group 2 Foxbridge Plate.

“I was hopeful going into the race,” commented Guy. “It all came down to the way he was ridden, he needs to be ridden quietly otherwise he runs out of gas.

“He will race next at Waikato in the Listed Sprint race over 1400m, a race he won last year but this time he will be carrying more weight, and beyond that we will look towards the Railway Stakes.”

The Listed J Swap Sprint at Te Rapa Racecourse will be held on 12 December and the Group 1 Railway Stakes is a feature race at Ellerslie Racecourse on New Year’s Day.

Starting from barrier 1 for rider Craig Grylls, Tomorrowland went forward in the early stages to settle in third position. Travelling behind the pace as they approached the home turn, Grylls pulled out to race three-wide down the straight before hitting the front and coasting to a one-and-a-quarter-length victory over Silver Eclipse (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who ranged up for second place, and The Bold One (NZ) (Fastnet Rock) in third.

Winning six races from 15 starts, the five-year-old gelding has totalled $158,535 in prizemoney for owners S Andrews, GD Buchan, AS Byron, Leighton Howl, D Martin, G Marychurch, GD Rutherford and D Walker.

Tomorrowland was purchased by Leighton Howl at the 2012 Karaka Select Sale for $8,000 from Waikato Stud.

Bred by Mary Chittick, the son of Fast ‘n’ Famous is out of winning mare Needled (Pins), a full-sister to Group 3 winner Rhysess (Pins). Needled is the dam of three winners including stakes placegetter Needlly (O’Reilly), runner-up in the Listed Shaw’s Wire Ropes Sprint Handicap.
