2016 National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale on the 9 - 11 May, 2016

Buyers seeking breeding, investment and pinhooking opportunities should be at Karaka in May for this Sale.

“We would buy more weanlings if they were on offer, and I know Australians are the same. We know people from Australia who would come across and buy weanlings of better quality” commented Bruce Harvey – Ascot Farm, leading buyer at the 2014 NZB National Weanling Sale.

Zarzino (NZ) (Zabeel), the dam of this season’s Group 1 Victoria Derby winner Tarzino (NZ) (Tavistock), was purchased at the 2014 National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale for only NZ$1,500. Her yearling colt was purchased at the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale for NZ$400,000, which shows the huge potential this Sale has to offer to pinhookers.

Nick King of Brighthill Farm, has had strong results from past Sales. “We have taken better weanlings to the Sale in the past few years and have had great success.”

2016 Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale on 29 July, 2016

The annual Karaka Stallion Parade will be conducted prior to the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale, featuring stallions available to breeders this season. Last year’s Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale saw 82 lots go under the hammer, with 57 sold. The clearance was recorded at 79% compared to 72% the previous year. The top lot was purchased by Cambridge Bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne for NZ$250,000 for Group 1 producing mare Amathea (NZ) (O’Reilly). Amathea is the dam of last year’s Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria (NZ) (Savabeel).

2016 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds Sale on the 16 & 17 November, 2016

NZB’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds celebrated 4 Group 1 wins last season, the only sale of its kind to yield Group 1 success. Dual Group 1 Derby winner Mongolian Khan, was successful at the highest level on both sides of the Tasman when he took out the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) and the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) before he won the Caulfield Cup. Turn Me Loose (NZ) (Iffraaj) won the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), at this season’s Melbourne Carnival.

NZB’s Ready to Run Sale graduates celebrated wins in 35 stakes races in six countries over the last three seasons, victories that include Sale graduate Glorious Days (Hussonet) success in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile.

2017 National Yearling Sale Series on the 30 January – 5 February, 2017

There were 21 individual Group 1 winners from the National Yearling Sale Series last season, the most of any auction house in Australasia.

As well as Prince of Penzance, another Karaka graduate includes Hong Kong superstar Aerovelocity (NZ) (Pins), the first Hong Kong-trained horse to win a Group 1 race in three different countries, with his Hong Kong Sprint victories followed by Group 1 victories in Japan and Singapore. Purchased for NZ$120,000, he has gone on to global stardom and winning over NZ$5.7m.
