In the past three days New Zealand Bloodstock graduates Eileen Dubh and Run Like Al have both provided significant updates to the pedigrees of their siblings to be offered at the 2010 Karaka Select Sale.

Eileen Dubh

The luck of the Irish was finally with Eileen Dubh (Storm Creek x Vingtaine, by Centaine) at Levin on Friday where the gutsy filly picked up the Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) after a tough display of grit and determination.

Fighting off Group winning filly St Germaine (Keeper x Selenium, by Straight Strike) all the way down to the wire, Eileen Dubh proved too classy for the field of fifteen, the majority colts, including Group 1 winning two-year-old Kaaptan who set the pace in the race.

Trained to perfection by Irishman Francis Finnegan, whom also races the filly with Waikato-based Irish vets Ronan Costello and Roison McQuillan, Eileen Dubh was offered by Soliloquy Lodge at Karaka's 2008 Carnival Sale.

A direct descendent of Richard Moore's Soliloquy (Sobig), Eileen Dubh is out of a half-sister to the Moore's wonderful current racemare Culminate (Elnadim), who, besides winning the Group 1 Otaki-Maori WFA Stakes last season, is best known for her courageous second behind Typhoon Tracy in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic in Sydney in March.

Soliloquy, under the Haunui draft, will offer a Perfectly Ready half-sister to Eileen Dubh, Lot �791, at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 Select Yearling Sale.

Of the filly Soliloquy's David Moore comments, "she is a good type of filly, typical of the family, with perhaps a tad more strength than Eileen Dubh at the same age being by Perfectly Ready".

The filly will represent a wonderful opportunity for buyers to enter into the Soliloquy family, and, given she is a half to a Group 1 winner and out of a half to a Group 1 winner, she has plenty of residual worth.

Run Like Al

The Soliloquy family struck again in the Group 3 ARC Eagle Technology (1600m) at Ellerslie on Saturday with Run Like Al (Al Akbar x Night Mare, by Mercury) returning to his best form in the feature.

A $30,000 purchase at the 2006 Karaka Festival Sale form Maxwell Heights by Paul Moroney Bloodstock, the same eye that found Monaco Consul and Xcellent amongst others, Run Like Al enjoys dictating in front and proved impossible to catch on Saturday in defeating Group 1 placed Mill Duckie (Magic Ring) by over two lengths.

The Jackie Good trained galloper, who has been good enough to place in two Group 1 events, took his earnings past $150,000 with the win and gave his half-brother, due to sell at Karaka in February, a significant boost.

His sibling by King's Chapel, Lot 577, will be offered by Crown Banks Farm on the first day of the Karaka Select Sale, Wednesday 3 February.

Hailing from Gabardine, like Soliloquy and Master O'Reilly, the bay colt is out of a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Prince of Praise.

Asia

New Zealand Bloodstock continues to provide a large number of winners throughout Asia with highlights over the weekend coming from graduates who won the two feature races at Sha Tin (Hong Kong) last night, while, over two race meetings at Kranji, Karaka graduates took out eight races between them.

Hong Kong

The Golan/Volksraad cross, which has produced the likes of Castle Heights and Le Baron, struck again in Hong Kong last night when Karaka Select grad Beauty Flash (Golan x Wychwood Rose, by Volksraad) won the Class 1 Chevalier Cup (1400m) for Tony Cruz.

Ridden by Matthew Chadwick, Beauty Flash scored by over a length to take his career earnings to over HK$1,000,000 with five wins now from just six Hong Kong starts for owners Mr and Mrs Kwok Siu Ming.

Having jumped 13 rating points since the beginning of the season, Beauty Flash looks an exciting prospect in Hong Kong after being purchased by Hong Kong-based Dan O'Donnell for $65,000 from Halidon Hill at Karaka in 2007.

The other Class 1 on the night went to Appreciation (Danasinga x Kincia, by Kinjite) who was purchased at the very same Karaka Select Sale by John Foote from Little Avondale Stud for $92,500.

The 1800m event gave Appreciation his third victory this season, with William Pike aboard the John Size trained galloper who has now won five of fifteen starts and over HK$3,000,000 for owners Mr and Mrs Hui Sai Fun.
