A. Age and Starts Conditions (Apply to all types of Permit)
  1. All un-raced 2yo and 3yo horses are eligible for importation.
  2. Horses aged five (5) or above will not be permitted to be imported into Hong Kong.

B. Performance Qualifications

Normal Permit / Normal Replacement Permit

Normal Replacement Permit applies to horses which are retired in their first twelve months in Hong Kong and have not raced more than five times.

Europe

    • Horses must have an International Rating of 80 or higher at the time of import.

Australia

    • Horses must have won a race at a Metropolitan track.
    • Or won a race of an advertised value of at least AUS$15,000 if the race was run prior to 1st July 2012, or of an advertised value of at least AUS$17,500 if the race was run on or after 1st July 2012.
    • Or if they have not won a race have been placed 2nd or 3rd in a Group or Listed race.

New Zealand

    • Horses must have won a race of an advertised value of at least NZ$8,000.
    • Or if they have not won a race have been placed 2nd or 3rd in a Group or Listed race.

Special Replacement Permit

Special Replacement Permit applies to horses which are retired in any season.

    • Two-year-olds and three-year-olds must have an International Rating of 95 or higher at the time of import.
    • Four-year-olds must have an International Rating of 105 or higher at time of import.

"International Rating" referred to herein means a Rating based on the International Classifications Committee Rating Scale and agreed by the Head of Handicapping, Race Planning & International Racing of The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

BEFORE BUYING A HORSE, ALL PERMIT HOLDERS SHALL CONSULT AND CONFIRM WITH THE HEAD OF HANDICAPPING, RACE PLANNING AND INTERNATIONAL RACING OF THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB REGARDING THE ELIGIBILITY FOR IMPORT.
