Karaka Yearling Parades Open to the Public

18 January 2012

Three of the largest vendors at the Karaka Sale Series will be conducting public parades of their Karaka 2012 yearlings in advance of selling starting Monday week.

The first will be Windsor Park Stud and Mapperley Stud who are holding parades tomorrow, Thursday 19 January, at their Cambridge properties.

Mapperley Stud's parade commences at 10am tomorrow morning, with Windsor Park Stud's parade following at 1pm.

Between the two properties over 90 yearlings will be paraded including the last New Zealand conceived progeny by Dewar Award winning sire High Chaparral, New Zealand's Champion Sire Thorn Park, eight-time Champion Sire Volksraad and the first yearlings by first season sire Guillotine.

One of the highlights of the Windsor Park Stud line-up is no doubt the three-quarter brother to the eight-time international Group 1 winner, So You Think (High Chaparral), himself a $110,000 graduate of the Karaka Premier Sale and now a winner of nearly $9 million in prize money.

High Chaparral will be represented by a total of 74 entries at this year's National Yearling Sales Series at Karaka.

Visitors are requested to RSVP in advance of their attendance.

Karaka's leading vendor by aggregate at the National Yearling Sales for the last 30 years, Cambridge Stud will be holding a full public parade at the Karaka sales complex next week, Tuesday 24 January, from 1.30pm at I Barn.

With 32 colts and 27 fillies to be paraded, Cambridge Stud's Premier Sale draft features a number of yearlings by their own stallions, including Australasia's greatest living sire Zabeel, as well as Stravinsky and Keeper.

The Cambridge Stud draft will also feature progeny by a number of local and international sires including Alamosa, Commands, Exceed and Excel, Flying Spur, High Chaparral, More Than Ready, O'Reilly, Pentire, Sakhee's Secret and Street Cry. Some of the highlights include:

  • Lot 353, the colt by red-hot sire Fastnet Rock, a three-quarter brother to the Group 1 winner and current Group 1 performer, the kiwi bred King's Rose (Redoute's Choice).
  • Multiple entries from the elite Eight Carat family including Lot 161, the half-brother by Stravinsky to Capital Diamond (Lucky Unicorn) who placed in this season's Group 1 1000 Guineas. The colt is from the Zabeel mare Diamond Smile, a daughter of the Group 1 winner and producer Diamond Lover (Sticks and Stones).
