South Island Sale Graduate Parthesia (NZ) Captures Tasmanian Oaks

20 February 2017

With this year’s South Island Sale now just two months away, a filly purchased at the Sale two years ago for $20,000 scored a timely stakes win in Australia over the weekend.

Parthesia (NZ), a daughter of White Robe Lodge stallion Raise The Flag, won Sunday’s A$100,000 Listed Brooklyn Park Agistment Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) at Launceston to boost her career earnings to A$82,150 – more than four times her purchase price.

Making her first start at stakes level, the filly came with an irresistible final surge under Damian Lane to win by a long neck.

Parthesia is trained by Darren Weir, who is no stranger to graduates of New Zealand Bloodstock sales. He won the 2015 Melbourne Cup with Karaka graduate Prince of Penzance (NZ) (Pentire).

Owned by the Galadi syndicate, Parthesia has now recorded two wins and two placings from her 10 starts.

Parthesia was bred by White Robe Lodge’s Brian Anderton in partnership with his brother Hec. White Robe Lodge offered him at the 2015 National Yearling Sales Series: South Island Session, where he was knocked down to the bid of John Foote and Darren Weir Racing.

Parthesia was the second stakes winner in recent weeks to come out of the South Island Sale, with Signify (NZ) (Perfectly Ready) – who cost $5,500 at the Sale in 2013 – winning the Group 1 Telegraph (1200m) at Trentham.

The win also continued a strong run of form for Raise The Flag, who sired the Listed Gore Guineas (1335m) winner Raise You Ten (NZ).

The 2017 South Island Sale will be held at the Riding for the Disabled Building at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch on April 21.
