New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, which will be held at Karaka on Monday and Tuesday next week, has had numerous significant pedigree updates since the catalogues went to print in late March.

Among the most significant is Lot 153, Novara Park’s weanling filly by Jakkalberry out of La Pinnicle. She comes from the same family as Jon Snow (NZ) (Iffraaj), who came of age after a summer of big-race placings with Group 1 Australian Derby and Group 2 Tulloch Stakes victories in the Sydney autumn. Another member of the family is Showemup (NZ) (Showcasing), who won the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes and placed in the Listed NZB Warstep Stakes to claim the title of NZB Southern Filly of the Year.

Two other weanlings come from Jon Snow’s family – Lot 167, a filly by Showcasing out of Lullaby, and Lot 247, a colt by the ill-fated Ferlax out of Sancy – while Lot 232 (Ocean Park – Quizzical) is a half-brother to Showemup.

Lots 87, 113 and 369 are all related to Humidor (NZ) (Teofilo), who has been a Group 1 Australian Cup winner in Melbourne this season and recently added a second placing in the Group 1 BMW Stakes in Sydney.

Lot 245, a Proisir filly out of Safari Sunset, is closely related to Dixie Blossoms (Street Sense) who finished third in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes.

Lot 278 is closely related to the Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther (NZ) (Tavistock), whose race record includes wins in the Hong Kong Derby, Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Cup and Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup, along with a recent third in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Hellbent (I Am Invincible), who ran second in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, is a close relative of Lot 287.

Lot 309 comes from the same family as the Group 1 Dubai Turf placegetter Ribchester (Iffraaj), along with the Listed Albury Gold Cup winner Green Sweet (Smart Strike).

Decorated stayer Who Shot Thebarman (NZ) (Yamanin Vital), who has further bolstered his record with a second in the Group 1 Sydney Cup and fourth in the Group 1 BMW, comes from the same family as the broodmare Black Bijou who is catalogued as Lot 342.

Dantessa, who will go through the ring as Lot 360, is from the same family as the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap runner-up Happy Clapper (Teofilo), while Lot 449 (Real Pzazz) is closely related to Group 1 Turffontein Empress Club Stakes runner-up Bella Sonata (Silvano).

Lot 462 comes from the same family as Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes placegetter Fell Swoop (Not a Single Doubt).

Lot 399, the broodmare Khagan who is in foal to Charm Spirit, is closely related to Invader (Snitzel) who won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes in Sydney and finished second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

Two broodmares, an unnamed daughter of Darci Brahma (Lot 477) and the three-race winner Tesoro (Lot 478) are from the same family as the recent Group 2 Travis Stakes winner and Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes placegetter Mime (NZ) (Mastercraftsman).

Lot 481, the broodmare Trickle who is in foal to Horse of the Year and Group 1 Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan, is another horse from the family of Jon Snow and Showemup.

Those are just the Group 1 performers. Countless others in the catalogue have had black type added to their pedigree page in the last few weeks.

Two broodmares in the catalogue are half-sisters to to All Roads (NZ) (Road to Rock), who won the Group 2 Japan-NZ International Trophy at Tauranga in March – Lot 359 is the Montjeu mare Danse Sauvage (NZ) who is in foal to Super Easy, while Lot 460 is the Per Incanto mare Scotia (NZ).

The broodmare Fledgling, who will go through the ring as lot 374, is the dam of Bassett (NZ) (Savabeel) who won the Listed Hareeba Stakes.

Bassett is one of two recent stakes-winning relatives for Lot 164, who is also related to the Listed Macau Guineas winner River Treasure (NZ) (Savabeel).

Lots 160 and 373 are from the same family as Listed Gosford Guineas winner Tribal Wisdom (Makfi), while Lot 49 is related to no fewer than three recent stakes winners – Group 3 Poinsettia Stakes winner The Secret Is Out (Captain Al), Group 3 Umzimkhlulu Stakes winner Gimme Six (Gimmethegreenlight) and Listed Cammidge Trophy winner Tupi (Tamayuz).

Lots 87, 113 and 369 come from the same family as Ilitshe (Fastnet Rock), who recently won the Group 3 Caradoc Gold Cup, and Lot 113 is also related to Listed Hawke’s Bay Gold Cup winner Five To Midnight (NZ) (Domesday).

Lot 102 is related to the recent Listed Mick Dittman Plate winner Tiyatrolani (Captain Sonador).

Top Of My List (High Chaparral), who recently won the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate, comes from the same family as a filly by Super Easy catalogued as Lot 138.

Lots 216 and 441 are from the same family as Listen (NZ) (Iffraaj), who recently defended his title in the Listed Selangor Gold Cup.

Lot 229 is closely related to Charles Road (Myboycharlie), who has improved on his close sixth placing in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby to win the Group 3 Manawatu Classic and a run photo-finish second in the Group 2 Championship Stakes.

Lot 302 is from the same family as Listed Premio Seregno winner Stamp Collecting (Casamento), while Lot 330’s relative Kobayashi (I Am Invincible) won the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup.

Lot 357 is from the same family as the unbeaten two-year-old Qiji Phoenix (Not a Single Doubt), who recently extended his record to three-out-of-three in the Listed Champagne Stakes.

Lots 413 and 443 come from the same family as Group 2 Sapphire Stakes winner Secret Agenda (Not a Single Doubt). In addition to four recent stakes placegetters, Lot 484 is closely related to the Listed Hanshin Rokko Stakes winner Asuka Biren (Black Tide).

There is one significant correction to the printed catalogue – Lot 387, Hayley Rose, was served by Sacred Falls, not Super Easy.

Four supplementary lots have also been added to the catalogue:

  • Lot 485, offered by Highden Park, is a weanling colt by Road To Rock out of Kathy O’Reilly. He comes from the family of Cox Plate winner and exciting young sire Ocean Park, along with the Group 1-winning mare Critic.
  • Lot 486 is a yearling filly offered by Delph Common. She is by Jimmy Choux out of the Kenny’s Best Pal mare Sprites Delight, from the family of Group 2 winners Pay My Bail and Megapins.
  • Delph Common will also offer Sprites Delight herself, who will go through the ring as Lot 488. Herself a three-race winner, Sprites Delight is the dam of one winner from two foals to race. She is being sold with a Swiss Ace filly at foot.
  • Lot 487, offered by Little Avondale Stud, is the More Than Ready mare Anaween who is in foal to Little Avondale stallion Per Incanto. The mare, herself a winner in Australia, comes from the family of successful sire Keeper.
