Well-bred mare All In Vogue (NZ) (Pins) cost $50,000 at Karaka as a yearling, and she boosted her earnings to almost three times that amount when she collected her second black-type win in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge Wanganui Cup (2040m).

Trained by Kevin Gray for Taranaki owners Peter and Min McDonald, All In Vogue won the Listed Warstep Stakes (2000m) as a three-year-old in the autumn of 2016 and placed in the Listed New Zealand St Leger (2500m) last March.

On Saturday she produced a performance that ranks among her very best, sitting in fourth place for most of the race before bursting into contention in the home straight. She faced a fierce challenge from the accomplished stayer Blathwayt (NZ) (Colombia), but she kept finding and scored by a neck.

All In Vogue has now had 27 starts for six wins, five placings and $141,135 in prizemoney. The McDonalds bought her for $50,000 from the draft of Fairdale Stud at the 2014 Premier Sale.

All In Vogue is one of five winners from seven foals to race for the Kaapstad mare Tall Poppy (NZ), who herself won 11 races including the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m), Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) and New Zealand Stakes (2000m). She also won the Group 2 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha, which is now a Group 1 race.
