Mr Kwan made the trip to Karaka with intentions of securing yearlings that he could race in Hong Kong, and when he laid eyes on the son of Showcasing (Lot 906) he went to $160,000 to secure him.

Out of Haunui Farm’s Book 2 draft, the colt is out of the winning Zabeel mare Mary Agnes who has produced two winners from two foals to race.

Magus Equine’s Willy Leung, who advised Mr Kwan on the purchase, was pleased to acquire the colt.

“He’s a great, strong and athletic horse and looks like he will be an early three-year-old type,” said Leung.

“We will keep the horse here for breaking in and a small preparation, and when he is ready we will take him back to Hong Kong to race.”

“Kiwi horses perform very well in Hong Kong and Showcasing is a Group 1 producer, so we really wanted one.”

With a 100% clearance, six yearlings by Haunui Farm’s resident sire Showcasing have been sold out of Book 2 for $336,000 at an average of $56,000, including Lot 906 who is the highest priced lot thus far.
