Berkley Stud’s promising young sire Highly Recommended has soared to new heights in the sale ring at Karaka with Ascot Farm placing the final bid of $175,000 on a colt at Lot 1011.

Consigned by Berkley Stud, the well-related son of Highly Recommended is a full brother to stakes winner Waldorf (NZ) and a half-brother to Group 3 winner Timy Tyler (NZ) (No Excuse Needed).

Bruce and Maureen Harvey of Ascot Farm regard his progeny having bid on the full brother at the Ready to Run Sale.

“There is a lot of improvement in him, Edwina said he hadn’t been in his prep for long so we will see what he grows into,” said Bruce Harvey. “He’s a sharp looking horse and when he started to move we liked what we saw.”

“We bought another Highly Recommended yesterday for $40,000, so it has averaged out not too badly.”

“He is a young sire that’s doing a good job. We’ve had a few horses by him and like what we have seen – they have been nice horses to work with, they are good types and there is good word out there on them.”

Ascot Farm, who made two purchases at the Book 1 Sale, have acquired five Lots in Book 2 for $400,000.
