Viviano (NZ) claimed the $100,000 Kranji Stakes, taking his earnings to more than six times his purchase price.

Viviano(NZ) (Keeper), who was bought for $85,000 at the 2013 Select Sale at Karaka, took his prize-money earnings to the brink of S$500,000 with a gritty win in Friday’s S$100,000 Kranji Stakes (1400m) at Kranji.

Trainer Mark Walker and jockey Vlad Duric, who claimed a feature win together a week earlier with fellow graduate Distinctive Darci(NZ) (Darci Brahma), joined forces again as Viviano ended a series of placings with a deserved win.

In a three-way photo finish, Viviano lunged for the line and claimed victory by a head.

“This horse is so consistent every time, he always tries his heart out,” Walker said.

“He’s a stable favourite at home. It’s great for Dato Yap and the Raffles Racing Stable (owners), who have been a great supporter of mine from Day 1. He has new horses coming all the time and I’m very appreciative of that.”

Viviano has now won nine races, eight of them in Singapore, for earnings of S$499,376 – the equivalent of more than NZ$530,000, which is more than six times his purchase price.

Viviano is one of three winners from five foals to race out of the Centaine mare Flying Florence(NZ), who herself went through the Karaka sale ring in the broodmare section of the 2009 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale (now Karaka May Sale) and sold for just $2,500 to Viviano’s breeder Stephanie Hole.

The 2018 Karaka May Sale will be held on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th May.
