Curraghmore's Lot 36, a filly by Savabeel, fetches $110,000.

Multiple bidders were drawn to a Savabeel filly out of a sister to Group One winner Velocitea (Volksraad) on Day 1 of the Karaka May Sale.

The bidding action started quickly and was closed when Te Akau Racing went to $110,000 to acquire Curraghmore’s yearling at Lot 36 who has been named Tam O'Shanter.

“She’s just a typical Savabeel – a strong, good type, and she was a standout yearling here,” commented Jamie Richards who trains for Te Akau Racing.

“We know the family quite well and trained her half-sister Piper who was well above average.

“We have been really impressed with how the Savabeels we bought at Karaka have broken in and David (Ellis) was keen to come back and try and get this one.

“We would have been happy to buy her for under $100,000, but I think to go a little bit more to get those sorts of horses is what you’ve got to do.

“She will go back to Te Akau, be broken in and then she’ll come into the stable and we will try win a Group One with her.”

Shares will be available for the Savabeel filly, Lot 36, on the Te Akau Racing website.
