Quality 2YOs Impress at Day 1 Breeze Ups

Day 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups saw 197 two-year-olds gallop down the straight of Te Rapa Racecourse.

Track conditions were recorded as a Slow 7 in the morning and as the day progressed it was upgraded to a Dead 6 from Heat 31 onwards.

Chard Ormsby, who operates under Riverrock Farm, produced a smart breeze up duo with two fillies by young sires. The trial-winning daughter (Lot 414) of Leading New Zealand Second Season Sire Burgundy stopped the clock at 10.71 while a filly (Lot 128) from the first two-year-old crop of Sacred Falls ran a time of 10.72 on the Slow 7 track.

Prima Park presented a well-related pair of colts who breezed in a quick time. The Savabeel colt (Lot 199) who is a full brother to three stakes winners, including Group One Queensland Derby winner Brambles, ran a time of 10.79 while the Tavistock colt (Lot 412), who is a three-quarter brother to multiple Group One winner Volkstok’n’barrell, clocked a time of 10.81 on the Slow 7 track.

The farm also had the quickest pair to breeze up today with an All Too Hard colt (Lot 156) and a Tavistock colt (Lot 214) posting an equal time of 10.37.

Two Rock ’n’ Pop geldings (Lots 184 and 317) consigned by Valachi Downs breezed in an identical quick time of 10.45. 

Eion Kemp’s Kilgravin Lodge had a smart breeze up with a Rubick colt (Lot 21) and a Smart Missile gelding (Lot 243) breezing in at an identical 10.99. Lot 21 is a half-brother to current Group Two HKJC Sprint Cup winner and Group One place getter Beat the Clock.

Last year’s leading vendor Riversley Park had a duo run in a similar time. An Ocean Park gelding (Lot 279) clocked in at 10.55 and a Per Incanto colt (Lot 306), who is a half-brother to the well-performed Hong Kong sprinter-miler National Treasure, stopping the clock at 10.56.

The quickest time of the day came when Woburn Farm presented an Ocean Park gelding (Lot 60) who ran a time of 10.35.

This year’s Breeze Ups will be aired lot-by-lot on Trackside TV in New Zealand and Racing.com in Australia with schedules yet to be announced.
