Passed in with a $20,000 reserve at the 2017 South Island Sale, Air Max (NZ) (Nadeem) is now a dual Guineas winner.

The Lance Robinson-trained gelding won the $50,000 Listed Gore Guineas (1335m) at his previous start last month, and on Saturday he added the $50,000 Listed Mediaworks Dunedin Guineas (1500m) at Wingatui.

Ridden by Terry Moseley, Air Max came with giant strides out of midfield to score a convincing victory by three-quarters of a length.

“It was another excellent performance today,” trainer Lance Robinson said. “I was pleased to see him do it on a good track.”

Air Max has now had six starts for two wins, two placings and $70,600 in prize-money for owners CP Wilson, BA Sheat, Doashoeychaz Syndicate (Mgr: Charlotte Bellew), HMCC Dreaming Big Syndicate (Mgr: Glenn Sayer), J & T Ballantyne, M & F Fearon, CL & WA Burrell, LM Burrell and LM & CJ Robinson.

“From the first day he came into work, he’s shown us so much,” Robinson said. “He’s just kept putting his hand up. He’s been good right the way through. He ran a great race during the Cup carnival in November (second to More Wonder (NZ) (Mossman)), and he’s stepped up again since then.

“Terry said to me after the race that he was getting into trouble from as far out as the 900-metre mark, but when he got him into the clear he just went whoosh.”

Air Max is a half-brother to Boots ‘N’ All (NZ) (Perfectly Ready), who was also passed in at the South Island Sale as a yearling. He is also a multiple stakes winner and has now amassed more than $262,000 in earnings.

Another half-brother, a colt by Super Easy, sold for $45,000 during Book 2 of Karaka 2019.
