Karaka graduate Savacool (NZ) (Savabeel) lifted her earnings past A$500,000 with an important black-type victory in the A$150,000 Listed Pioneer Services Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Bought for $220,000 at the 2016 Premier Sale, the Chris Waller-trained mare has been a consistent big-race performer with placings in the Group Three Tattersall’s Cup (2400m), Aspiration Quality (1600m), Easter Cup (2000m) and Chairman’s Handicap (2000m).

Thursday brought a deserved stakes breakthrough, charging home from last to score an impressive half-length victory in the hands of Tommy Berry.

Raced by CSTN Bloodstock, Savacool has now had 28 starts for six wins, 11 placings and A$501,675 in stakes.

“Great to get the win on the board,” Waller’s stable representative Charlie Duckworth said. “Obviously she has got plenty of black-type placings in Group races, but to get a Listed win is very important for her as a mare.

“Winning today she showed plenty of zip, so it leaves us with plenty of options for her preparation ahead.”

Savacool is one of five winners from six foals to race out of the Anabaa mare Chilled Out (NZ), who is a half-sister to Group One performer The Big Chill (NZ) (O’Reilly). She is also a half-sister to the dam of the multiple Group Two winner (I Am) Coldplay (NZ) (Savabeel).

Savacool’s victory provided the 100th individual stakes winner for Waikato Stud’s resident sire Savabeel.

The champion stallion has won the Grosvenor Award for five consecutive seasons, four Dewar Awards and five Centaine Awards and has sired 20 individual Group One winners.

This year’s Ready to Run Sale will give buyers access to a number of quality two-year-olds by the super sire, held at Karaka on 18 and 19 November.

Breeze Ups will be conducted at Te Rapa Racecourse on 12 and 13 October and the catalogue will be out mid-September.
