Leading New Zealand Sires in Demand on Day 1

Day 1 of the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds saw strong demand for proven New Zealand sires with Savabeel and Tavistock responsible for all five of today’s top lots.

A broad range of buyers were active at the Sale with horses destined for Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Macau, China, Thailand and Malaysia.

Winning Form Adds Fuel to Pedigrees

The spring racing carnivals throughout Australasia have delivered multiple delights for the pedigrees of juveniles catalogued in NZB’s upcoming Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds.

With 445 youngsters set to walk through the sale ring on 21 and 22 November, these victories have further boosted the calibre of pedigrees on offer.

Classic-type Fillies on Agenda

NZB’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds provides the perfect opportunity to invest in the next generation of fillies.

It’s not only the New Zealand colts and geldings taking top honours in Australasia’s coveted races, the fillies are stamping their mark too and in the past six seasons New Zealand sourced fillies have triumphed in 36% of all Australian Group One filly races.

Cup Day Win for Kaonic (NZ)

Karaka graduate Kaonic (NZ) (Savabeel) scored a black-type win on Australian racing’s biggest stage on Tuesday, taking out the A$150,000 Listed Furphy Plate (1800m) on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington.

Ridden by Hong Kong-based jockey Zac Purton, the four-year-old stalked the leaders into the straight and surged to the lead inside the last 200 metres.

Breeze Up Videos Online Now

This week, 397 youngsters breezed down the home straight at Te Rapa Racecourse with their last 200 metres of work filmed and timed – and once again NZB's Ready to Run Sale vendors have delivered a high caliber preparation of the Lots to be offered at the Sale in November. 

All Breeze Up videos are now available online. Recorded in high definition, the quality will automatically scale based on your internet connection and device. The video clips can also be downloaded from Vimeo or viewed in ‘Couch Mode’ which plays all clips from start to finish.

Breeze Up Form Matches NZB’s Quality Catalogue

NZB’s Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups came to a close today with the final 201 two-year-olds breezing down the Te Rapa straight.

Yesterday’s track conditions started as a Slow 7 and during the day was upgraded to a Dead 6 while heats 105 to 210 galloped on an improved Dead 5 track today.

Quality 2YOs Impress at Day 1 Breeze Ups

Day 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups saw 197 two-year-olds gallop down the straight of Te Rapa Racecourse.

Track conditions were recorded as a Slow 7 in the morning and as the day progressed it was upgraded to a Dead 6 from Heat 31 onwards.

2YOs Set to Breeze Up Next Week

Breeze Ups for New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds will take place next week on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 October with each day commencing at 10am.

Held at Te Rapa Racecourse over two days, there will be 210 heats filmed and timed from the 200 metre mark to the winning post.

Video clips of the Breeze Ups will be made available for viewing on the NZB website by Friday 19 October.

High Profile Sires With Dominant Records

One of the biggest selling points at the NZB Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds is the sire power of 110 varied stallion profiles, each offering unique value. Amongst this selection are internationally renowned Group One producers whose high profiles offer buyers the opportunity to capitalise on their sought after progeny.

Fourteen years have passed since Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill) himself went through the sale ring, topping the 2004 Premier Sale with a price tag of $1.1 million. Retired to The Oaks Stud in 2007, he has been named the Champion Sire in Singapore five times including the last three years in succession. Also the Leading New Zealand Sire of 3YOs in 2015-16, Darci Brahma has sired eight Group One winners in New Zealand, Hong Kong and Australia in the last five seasons. In total, he sired 34 individual stakes winners in those five seasons with a 9% stakes winners to winners ratio.

Group Success Prominent Among Young Sires

In just a few short years, many of Australasia’s recent stallion recruits have had their first crops grace the racetracks and the results seen so far have made a big impression. Cambridge Stud’s Burgundy(NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), a three-quarter brother to successful sire Darci Brahma, was a five-time stakes winner and Group One performer. The Leading New Zealand Second Season Sire in 2017-18 is also the sire of Group One New Zealand One Thousand Guineas runner-up and NZB Filly of the Year Dijon Bleu, Group Two Hawke’s Bay Guineas winner Hard Merchandise and Singaporean Listed Golden Horseshoe placegetter Bringer of War.

In 2015 a new wave of Group One-performing colts joined the stallion rosters of Australasia’s leading studs and three years on their first crop of two-year-olds are now ready to go through the auction ring.

Karaka graduate Debt Collector (NZ) (Thorn Park) reaffirmed his place among Singapore’s very best with a come-from-nowhere win in Sunday’s S$1 million Raffles Cup (1600m) at Kranji.

Bought for $30,000 at the 2014 Select Sale and $120,000 at the Ready to Run, Debt Collector rapidly rose to superstardom with eight wins in his first 12 starts and the title of 2016 Horse of the Year.
