Beyond The Barriers

2022 NZB Freestyle Class winner Star Tsar (Fastnet Rock)

Thoroughbreds are incredibly versatile and New Zealand Bloodstock is proud to support Beyond the Barriers, a non-profit organisation who promote the versatility and suitability of retired racehorses as pleasure and sporthorses in New Zealand.

Beyond the Barriers run clinics, events and support a number of thoroughbred-specific prizes at events throughout the country. Their main event being the Dunstan Ex-Factor annual competition showcasing thoroughbreds who have had only 12 months sporthorse schooling since retiring from their intended career on the racetrack.

Selected thoroughbreds compete in three of the seven available classes and points accumulated across these classes determine the overall winner of Dunstan Ex-Factor. The classes provide riders with an opportunity to show a range of skills including jumping, dressage and freestyle which makes for great viewing for spectators.
