Young preparer Kurtis Pertab is over the moon with his results so far, including the sale of Lot 198, an Ardrossan gelding that went the way of Mr Me Tsui. He has a few more to head through the ring on Day Two that he is looking forward to seeing in the ring.

Ex-pat kiwi bloodstock agent Bevan Smith as made two purchases from vendor Riversley Park, including bidding to $500,000 for a Zoustar colt that is destined for Hong Kong. He was impressed with the way the two-year-old breezed up and has his eye on a few other prospects later in the day.

Peter Moody has had plenty of luck with kiwi thoroughbreds in the past including current stable star I Wish I Win (NZ) (Savabeel). Today he has purchased another bay colt by the champion sire Savabeel when going to $200,000 for Lot 218.

The records kept tumbling at the 2023 Ready to Run Sale with Lot 376, a Star Turn colt, topping the Sale and setting a new record of $825,000 only minutes from the end of the day. An emotional Kit Brooks was thrilled with the result, topping off a super few days for the Cambridge-based polo player’s operation, KB Bloodstock.

Just before he jetted back home, Jessie Gower spoke to Richard Laming after his shopping spree at the Ready to Run Sale, co-purchasing four lots with John White Bloodstock. They secured the much-anticipated half-sister to Kovalica, Lot 298 by Super Seth from Kilgravin Lodge and the half-brother to Hong Kong Champion Lucky Sweynesse in Lot 116 (Contributer) from Woburn Farm.

Willie Leung spoke to Jessie Gower on behalf of leading buyer Mr Yeung Kin Man after he went to $800,000 to secure Lot 289, an All Too Hard colt, from the draft of Riversley Park. In what has been Mr Yeung’s first visit to New Zealand, he has enjoyed the atmosphere of the Sale and spent $2.5m on quality two-year-olds.
