2006 National Broodmare Sale - Day 1 Summary

Despite torrid weather at Karaka today, it was smooth sailing ringside on Day One of�New Zealand Bloodstock's annual�National Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale.

The first part of the day was dedicated to mixed bloodstock with yearlings, two year olds, untried horses and�racehorses offered. The mixed stock sessions combined to record a clearance rate of 86%, with�61lots sold�for total takings of�NZ$402,500 and a combined average of NZ$6,605.�

The highlight of the mixed stock came in the Racehorse session, with Zabeel mare, Zeal (ex Namouna by Sadler's Wells) at Lot 48 purchased by prominent Australian bloodstock agent, John Foote, for NZ$80,000.�Foote also accounted for the third highest price of that session, a Stravinsky mare out of Gazebo (Snadee) at Lot 70 which he�bought for NZ$35,000.

The second highest priced lot of the morning session was Lot 60,�the Lord Ballina mare, Good Reason,�which was bought for NZ$40,000 by Megan Liefting from Mark Todd's Rivermonte Farm.

The highest priced Untried lot was a late entry Zabeel mare at Lot 368 out of Rose Croix (Chief's Crown). The four year old was bought for NZ$35,000 on behalf of a local client by Bloomsbury Stud. The second highest priced Untried entry was a Catbird filly at Lot 34 purchased by Mr Chang Sig Kim of United Bloodstock Ltd. The unbroken filly�out of�Better Clearance (Cryptoclearance) was purchased for NZ$25,000 for Korean owner, Mr Yoon.

Lot 71 marked the first of the 289�broodmares to go through the ring, with 110 mares catalogued for the first day of selling. The highest priced broodmare of the day was Lot 95, an�American bred mare by Grindstone. She was bought from Trelawney Stud in foal to Van Nistelrooy by Cambridge trainer, Stuart Munro, for NZ$135,000.�

Peter and Toni Lavin of Queensland paid the second highest price of the day when they secured Dolce Veloce, by Integra, at Lot 149 for NZ$90,000.�The Group 3 winning mare is carrying a positive test to Elusive City.
