2021 National Online Yearling Sale Live on Gavelhouse Plus

A select catalogue of 49 yearlings is now available to view online.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2021 National Online Yearling Sale is now live and available to view on Gavelhouse Plus. 

The newcomer to NZB’s National Yearling Sale Series will take up a fully digital format, set to be conducted on NZB subsidiary and premium online platform Gavelhouse Plus, following the conclusion of Karaka 2021.

The Online Sale launched today with a select catalogue of 49 yearlings from vendors throughout New Zealand, including several farms in the South Island. Bidding will run from 9AM (NZT) on Friday 29 January through to 7PM (NZT) on Wednesday 3 February.

The renowned Cambridge Stud is putting strong support behind the Sale with four quality yearlings in the National Online Yearling Sale catalogue:

  • Lot 3, a filly by star sire Iffraaj out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Pride of Tralee (NZ). The dam of two winners including stakes-placed Crystal Fountain (Stravinsky), Pride of Tralee is a half-sister to Group One winner Serenade Rose (Stravinsky) and a three-quarter sister to the dam of Group One winner Trekking (Street Cry). Another close relative is Tralee Rose (NZ) (Tavistock), who scored a seven-length win at Listed level in Melbourne earlier this month.
  • Lot 8, a colt by Tarzino out of Satin Slipper (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who is a half-sister to the stakes winner and sire Cheval de Troy (NZ) (Zabeel).
  • Lot 10, a Tavistock colt from the family of Group One stars Fairy King Prawn (Danehill), Easy Rocking (Barathea) and Cosmic Endeavour (Northern Meteor).
  • Lot 29, by Sacred Falls from the famous Eight Carat family. The pedigree page is loaded with Group One success through the likes of Diamond Lover (Sticks and Stones), Don Eduardo (NZ) (Zabeel), Tristalove (NZ) (Sir Tristram), Viking Ruler (Danehill), Octagonal (NZ) (Zabeel), Mouawad (NZ) (Zabeel), Shower of Roses (NZ) (Zabeel), De Beers (NZ) (Quest for Fame) and Viscount (Quest for Fame).

Other notable lots include offerings from esteemed nurseries Windsor Park Stud and Mapperley Stud.

Mapperley Stud consigns Lot 4, who is by proven sire Charm Spirit out of the winning mare Queen of Excuses (NZ) (No Excuse Needed), from the family of exceptional sprinters Classique Legend (Not a Single Doubt) and Aethero (Sebring). Queen of Excuses is also a half-sister to stakes winner Sleeping Beauty (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) and three stakes placegetters, while another sibling is the dam of Group One winner Herculian Prince (NZ) (Yamanin Vital).

Windsor Park offers Lot 7, who is also by Charm Spirit and is out of the stakes-placed mare Roc de Chine (Fastnet Rock).

The catalogue has quality from the start, with Lot 1 boasting a pedigree page stacked with black type through the likes of Group One stars Vision and Power (NZ) (Carnegie) and Glamour Puss (NZ) (Tale of the Cat).

Blandford Lodge’s Lot 18 is a half-sister to two stakes performers including the $1m Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) placegetter Bocce (Foxwedge).

Lot 22 is by Australian newcomer Russian Revolution out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Astara (NZ) (Dalghar).

Hawke’s Bay’s Valentine Lodge offers Lot 26, a colt by Sacred Falls out of a sister to Hong Kong Group One performer Victory Magic (NZ) (Savabeel).

Lot 31, from Highden Park, is an Iffraaj filly out of a sister to two stakes winners including the Hong Kong Derby (2000m) hero Ping Hai Star (NZ) (Nom du Jeu).

Lot 38 is by exciting first season sire Time Test out of a sister to three stakes performers including the Group One Australian Derby (2400m) placegetter Eric the Eel (Olympic Glory).

Goodwood Stud offer Lot 46, a filly by Turn Me Loose out of a three-quarter-sister to Group One New Zealand Derby (2400m) placegetter and young sire What’s the Story (NZ) (Savabeel).

Lot 47 is a filly by Rip Van Winkle out of a granddaughter of the great Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram) – a pedigree page that features the likes of Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm), Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) and Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill).

Lot 48, offered by Brixton Farm in New Plymouth is out of the Group Three Eclipse Stakes (1200m) and Karaka Million 2YO placegetter Maureen Dorothy (NZ) (Spartacus).

A notable benefit of the digital catalogue is that all lots offered in the National Online Yearling Sale are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series. Just 12 short months after they make their virtual sale-ring debut, graduates of the online sale can compete for a share in the $1m Doubletree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the remainder of their careers.
