Anniversary Day Bonus For Katana

27 January 2003

Katana (Volksraad x Tristean) showed her race rivals a clean pair of heels in today's New Zealand Bloodstock 1200 at Avondale, striding out to an impressive 3 length victory.

The Mike Moroney and Andrew Scott trained filly defeated the much improved Waitoki Dream (Pentire x Calm Lover) and third place-getter Ecstatic (Sandtrap x Straight Lady). As an enrolled Mercedes Super Bonus Series 2YO, the talented filly picked up the $10,000 Mercedes Super Bonus, in addition to the winner's prize-money.

Katana was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the 2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Fillies Sale for $52,500 from the draft of Haunui Farm. The filly is raced by Alan and Christine Abel.

The next race in the Mercedes Super Bonus Series is the richest race in New Zealand, the $500,000 Mercedes Classique, on February 1 at Te Rapa.

All horses purchased at this week's New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series are eligible to be enrolled in the Mercedes Super Bonus Series.
