Karaka 2018 will see a diverse first crop of yearlings representing 19 exciting new sires from New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.

A brilliant Cox Plate winning son of one of the greatest sires Galileo, Coolmore Stud’s young recruit Adelaide is a multiple Group winner who was unbeaten as a two-year-old.

With his first crop now yearlings, he will have three of his progeny on offer at Karaka in Book 1 including:

  • Lot 589 is a grandson of Champion WFA performer and Female Stayer Lashed.

Having passed in December 2016, Atlante’s career was cut short at Mapperley Stud with just two seasons. He was a proven stakes winner on both sides of the Tasman winning the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas and a Listed event at Moonee Valley.

The well-bred son of Fastnet Rock will be represented by 24 yearlings including:

  • Lot 566 is a half-brother to Group 2 winner Showboy – Jade Fortune and grandson of Champion 2YO Lycra.
  • Lot 580 is a colt from the same family as Group 1 winner on both sides of the Tasman Volkstok’n’barrell.

Multiple Group winner and Champion Sprinter Brazen Beau is a son of brilliant sprinter I am Invincible. He retired to Darley Australia in 2015 with the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and Newmarket Handicap under his belt.

Brazen Beau will be represented by four yearlings, all catalogued in Book 1. They include:

  • Lot 418 is a colt out of the stakes winning mare Ms Seneca Rock making him a half-brother to dual stakes winner Minaj.

Windsor Park Stud’s exciting newcomer Charm Spirit was a winner at two with an additional five wins at three including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on the prestigious Champions Day at Ascot and the Group 1 Prix du Moulin and Prix Jean Prat in France.

The high-class son of Invincible Spirit has 55 progeny catalogued across all three sessions, including:

  • Lot 115 is a half-brother to current Group 1 winner He’s Our Rokkii.
  • Lot 445 is out of the O’Reilly black-type mare Ombre Rose and a half-sister to three stakes performers.
  • Lot 651 is a son of Group 1 winner The Mighty Lions making him a half-brother to Group 3 winner Vaquera.

The winner of five of his eight starts, Newgate Farm’s Deep Field is a full brother to Shooting to Win and son of the record-setting performer Northern Meteor.

The nine yearlings at Karaka by Group winner Deep Field include:

  • Lot 363 is a colt out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Shower of Roses and three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Danewin from the great Eight Carat family.

Newgate Farm’s Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter Dissident entered stud after winning five Group 1 races throughout an exceptional career.

The son of Sebring has seven yearlings catalogued in Book 1 at Karaka 2018 including:

  • Lot 408 is a half-brother to Group 2 Caulfield Sprint winner Biscayne Bay.
  • Lot 645 is a colt from the same family as reigning NZ Horse of the Year Bonneval.

El Roca retired to Westbury Stud with a strong racetrack record under his belt. The newcomer and son of Fastnet Rock won three races, including Listed events on both sides of the Tasman.

Twice placed at Group 1 level, El Roca will be represented by 23 progeny including:

  • Lot 234 is a colt from the same family as recent Group 3 winner Five to Midnight.
  • Lot 268 is out of a half-sister to Champion 2YO and Karaka Million winner Ruud Awakening.
  • Lot 970 is a filly out of multiple Group winner Regal Kiss.

White Robe Lodge bolstered its stallion roster with the new acquisition of Ghibellines. The son of Shamardal is a half-brother to the four-time Group 1 winner Guelph.

Ghibellines, who won the Group 2 Todman Stakes as a two-year-old, will have five yearlings go through the ring including:

  • Lot 179 is a half-brother to star performer and five-time Group winner Who Shot Thebarman.
  • Lot 438 is a half-sister to Tasmanian Oaks winner and recent Bagot Handicap winner Parthesia.

Dual Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown was a leading three-year-old miler who also went undefeated as a two-year old. A brilliant winner having won six of his nine starts he added the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and Golden Rose Stakes to his record before retiring to stud at Darley.

His eldest progeny now yearlings, Karaka will offer seven of his progeny including:

  • Lot 397 is a filly out of Group 1 Railway Handicap winner Miss Raggedy Ann.

The leading first season sire in Europe and North America by average, Kingman was a classic winning miler with four Group 1 wins and a pedigree to match. Another son of Invincible Spirit, out of Classic winner Zenda.

Lot 394 will be the only Kingman yearling offered at sale in the southern hemisphere this year and is closely related to dual Group 1 winner Humidor.

Joining the Arrowfield Stud roster in 2015 was four-time Group 1-winning sprinter and miler Olympic Glory. Crowned Champion 2YO and Champion 3YO Miler he won eight races including one at each of his two, three and four-year-old seasons.

The sole yearling on offer by Olympic Glory is Lot 610 a filly out of a winning sibling to three stakes winners.

Rich Hill Stud’s young recruit Proisir is by influential stallion Choisir and is a full-brother to Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet. Proisir won three races including the Group 3 Newcastle Spring Stakes, and he ran second to Dundeel in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas.

Proisir’s first crop of yearlings, with 38 catalogued, include:

  • Lot 497 is a half-brother to recent Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer Dijon Bleu.
  • Lot 573 is a half-brother to NZ Horse of the Year and 10 time Group 1 winner King Mufhasa.
  • Lot 643 is a colt out of Champion 3YO Filly in Singapore and Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Tapildo.

Pure Champion was an elite performer in Ireland, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong before a career-best win in the Group 1 Windsor Park Plate. Winning eight races, he stands at Willow Glen Stud in the South Island.

Pure Champion has three yearlings at Karaka 2018 including:

  • Lot 1159, a colt out of a half-sister to Group 3 winner in Australia The Embassy – Mr Ambassador.

Rubick was the highest rated two-year-old colt of his generation and retired to stud at Coolmore Australia in 2015 after winning three of his eight starts – two at Group level.

The precocious son of Encosta de Lago will offer three of his progeny at Karaka 2018 including:

  • Lot 435 is the first foal out of the stakes winning mare Niki Piki Milo.

The best performing son of champion sire O’Reilly, Sacred Falls, is a new recruit at Waikato Stud. He was unbeaten in six starts in New Zealand including the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas. Following four black-type wins he then travelled to Sydney where he scored sensational back-to-back wins in the Group 1 Doncaster in 2013 and 2014.

Sacred Falls has 60 yearlings catalogued across all three sessions including:

  • Lot 167 is a colt out of the Group 2 winning Savabeel mare Do Ra Mi.
  • Lot 287 is a colt out of winning mare J’Lo making him a half-brother to four stakes performers.
  • Lot 528 is a colt out of the winning full sister to three stakes winners including Group 1 Derby winner Brambles.
  • Lot 631 is a half-brother to four stakes performers.

A winner of the stallion-making Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, and in a faster time than both Lonhro and Redoute’s Choice, Shooting to Win triumphed in four races over 1200m-1600m. The son of Northern Meteor retired to Darley Stud in 2015 he also shuttled to Ireland in 2016.

He will be represented by 10 of his progeny in Book 1 at Karaka 2018 including:

  • Lot 85 is a colt out of Champion Sprinter and Miler in New Zealand Calveen making him a half-brother to Group 3 performer Miss Delveen.
  • Lot 425 is a colt out of the stakes performing Montjeu mare Mystique and a half-brother to stakes winner Replique.

Toronado is a Group 1-winning son of the hugely successful High Chaparral. Winning six of his 12 starts he succeeded in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes as well as the Sussex Stakes. The Al Shaqab owned entire retired to stud standing in 2015 in both Great Britain and Australia and will shuttle to France for the 2018 season.

Toronado has five yearlings catalogued including:

  • Lot 297 is a granddaughter of Australian Horse of the Year and four time Group 1 winner Let’s Elope.

A son of leading Australian sire Sniztel, Wandjina claimed two Group wins including the Group 1 Australian Guineas. He placed second in the All Aged Stakes beating home one of the best sprinters Chautauqua.

Retiring to stud at Newgate Farm, Wandjina has two yearlings at Karaka 2018 including:

  • Lot 266 is a colt out of Group 1 Railway Handicap winner Imananabaa.
