Back-to-Back Feature Triumphs for Good Fight
6 November 2023
Just two weeks out from the 2023 edition of New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale at Karaka, a former graduate of the world’s leading sale of two-year-olds has continued his rich run of form with victory in the Perak Turf Club’s biggest race.
Good Fight (Super One) scored an impressive win in the RM150,000 Coronation Cup (1600m) on Sunday, improving his career record to nine wins from 26 starts. Passed in when offered by Ohukia Lodge during the 2019 Ready to Run Sale, he has now banked more than RM320,000 in stakes – the equivalent of around NZ$115,000.
A dominant last-start winner of Selangor’s Supreme Challenge Cup (1400m) on October 22, the star six-year-old stepped up to 1600 metres on Sunday and delivered a repeat performance.
Good Fight was one of the first to leave the starting gates, then took up a perfect position in third as a pair of his opponents speared forward to lead from their wide draws.
An opening appeared towards the inside rail at the top of the home straight and Good Fight seized the opportunity, quickening powerfully to take the lead passing the 300-metre mark.
Fellow Karaka graduate Black Thorn (NZ) (Redwood) emerged from the pack and provided the toughest challenge late in the race, but Good Fight maintained a clear advantage and crossed the finish line just over a length ahead.
Runner-up Black Thorn was also sold through the Ready to Run Sale, fetching just $6,000 back in 2015. His 59-start career has produced 10 wins and 15 placings, earning his connections the equivalent of more than NZ$170,000 in prize-money.
New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2023 Ready to Run Sale will be held at Karaka on November 22 and 23.
