Bonus & Incentive Schemes at Karaka 2015

New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2015 National Yearling Sale Series have a number of yearlings catalogued that are eligible for a range of bonus and incentive schemes across New Zealand and Australia.

The bonus and incentive schemes available are NZB Insurance Pearl Series, New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million, BOBS, QTIS and VOBIS.

BOBS – Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme has 131 eligible yearlings across the three Sales at Karaka 2015. For a yearling to be BOBS eligible it must be sired by a NSW-based stallion and last year paid out over $10m in bonuses.

BOBS eligible yearlings include:

  • Lot 83 – Filly by Redoute’s Choice out of a stakes winning mare Mygoodgrace (Royal Academy), winner of the Listed Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes and is a half-sister to stakes winner Tully Dane (Danehill), winner of the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes

  • Lot 251 – Filly by High Chaparral out of Alma Star (Al Maher). Out of a winning dam that is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock) and Commanding Jewel (Commands), winner of the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

  • Lot 372 – Colt by Fastnet Rock out of Episode (Scenic). Full-brother to stakes winner First Seal (Fastnet Rock), winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes. Episode is a Group 1 winning dam including the Group 1 South Australian Oaks and the Group 1 Australasian Oaks.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka Million is a series of three races – $1m Karaka Million 2YO race, $250,000 Karaka 3YO Mile and the $100,000 Windsor Park Stud Karaka Stayers Cup. All yearlings that are sold at Karaka are eligible to become Karaka Million registered from the fall of the hammer. You must register before the deadline on 3 March 2015.

NZB Insurance Pearl Series offers $5 million in prizemoney and bonuses across 200 filly races around the country. The Karaka Premier Sale currently has 10 yearlings nominated for the Series, including:

  • Lot 42 – Filly by Cape Blanco out of Madame Echezeaux (Montjeu). Out of a half-sister to Darci Brahma (Danehill), multiple Group 1 winner and Champion Sprinter in NZ in 2006-07 and Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice), winner of the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes.

  • Lot 178 – Filly by Makfi out of Sopra Tutto (Van Nistelrooy). Out of a half-sister to Ulberalles (Giant’s Causeway) who ran third in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby. This filly’s Granddam is multiple Group 1 winner Ethereal (Rhythm), winner of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup.

  • Lot 263 – Filly by Shocking out of Artemesia (Peintre Celebre). Half-sister to Perfect Start (Perfectly Ready), winner of the Group 3 Manawatu Cup and the Group 3 Trentham Stakes. Lot 263 is also a half-sister to stakes winner Art Beat (Captain Rio), winner of the Group 3 Winter Cup.

QTIS has the condition that the yearling is sired by a Queensland-based stallion. Any registered horse can race for incentives on selected races. Karaka 2015 has 11 yearlings eligible to enter with just one yearling in the Premier catalogue.

  • Lot 69 – Filly by Rothesay out of Miss Vandal (Don’t Say Halo). Half-sister to Miss Marielle (Encosta de Lago), winner of the Group 2 STC Hill Stakes and out of stakes winning dam, Miss Vandal, winner of the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes.

VOBIS is based in Victoria and eligible horses can race for up to $12.5 million worth of bonuses. There are 19 yearlings catalogued across NZB’s 2015 National Yearling Sales Series with six eligible in the Premier Sale, including:

  • Lot 110 – Colt by Tookrak Toff out of Group 1 winning mare Penny Gem (Pentire), winner of the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes, and is a three-quarter-sister to stakes winners Entirely Platinum (Pentire) and Fairy Gem (Viscount).

  • Lot 356 – Filly by High Chaparral out of Divine Secret (Thunder Gulch), who finished third in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Lot 356 is also BOBS eligible.

  • Lot 963 – Filly by Magnus out of stakes winning dam Flowerdrum (Mister Baileys), winner of the Group 2 WH Stocks Stakes and dam to two winners.
