26 March 2003

Saturday's New Zealand Bloodstock 3YO Classique (1600m) at Tauranga has a field of 14 smart performers all aiming to take away the $100,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Series prize money.

Also with two chances in the race are Bruce & Stephen Marsh with consistent performer Prince Amigo (Prince Ferdinand x Ice Flake) and Ultra Vires (Woodborough x Our Fair Lady).

One of the top weights in the field is the Paul O'Sullivan runner, Black Muscat (O'Reilly x Black Sugar), who has impressive recent form with two wins and a second in his last three starts.

The New Zealand Bloodstock $100,000 3YO Classique is the only 3YO race of the Mercedes Super Bonus Series. The Series is predominantly for 2YO's and has a prize pool of $1.4million. To be eligible to enter in the Series horses must be sold through New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series.

Last year's race was won by very exciting galloper Sedecrem (Faltaat x Real Trier), who fittingly is part owned by Mercedes-Benz CEO Ernie Ward. Sedecrem is also aptly named, being Mercedes spelt backwards.
