13 April 2015

Three-year-old filly Consensus (NZ) (Postponed) won the third leg of the Southern Filly of the Year Series, the Listed $50,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes (1600m), which was held at Riccarton on Saturday.

Saturday’s win has earned Consensus 7 points, taking her into the lead for the Series with 10 points overall. Darci’s Dream (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Miss Seton Sands (NZ) (Gonski) both sit in second place on 7 points each and Starlight Angel (NZ) (Swiss Ace) and No Tricks (NZ) (Savabeel) are behind them on 3 points each.

Taking her third win at her new hometrack for trainer Terri Rae, this is Consensus’ first stakes win after running in a number of black-type races. With a total of 15 starts since debuting as a two-year-old, she finished second twice this season in two Listed races, the New Zealand Bloodstock Canterbury Belle Stakes, the first leg in the Series, and the Armadillo Stakes.

Ridden by Mark Du Plessis, Consensus went forward in the early stages from barrier 11 to settle just ahead of mid-field as Somethingvain (NZ) (Falkirk) went into the lead. Travelling to the outside of the pacemakers, Consensus raced at a steady tempo as they approached the corner to reach the front-line upon straightening for home.

Consensus applied the pressure to Belle Miraaj (NZ) (Iffraaj), who briefly took the lead before the Postponed filly drove to the front. No Tricks arrived on the scene in the final stages but Consensus kicked on to win by a head over No Tricks who was ahead of Belle Miraaj in third place.

The daughter of Postponed has now earned $84,550 for her owners Mrs JC Christie, J & M Lum, Mrs D & M Molloy, Such Is Life Ltd & Est late M Molloy.

Bred by M2 Racing Limited, Consensus is out of winning mare Kate Cross (Cape Cross). Her granddam, Restrain (Centaine), is a half-sister to the dam of stakes winner Silver Baron (Defensive Play), winner of the Listed Veuve Clicquot Stakes.

The final leg in the Southern Filly of the Year Series takes place this Saturday, 18 April, with the running of the Listed $50,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (2000m) at Riccarton.
