Da Qian Shi Jie Wins Inaugural New Zealand Bloodstock Cup

The New Zealand and Chinese racing industries broke new ground today with the inaugural running of the RMB500,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Cup (1800m) at Korchin in Inner Mongolia, a race that lived up to expectations and was won in scintillating style by Da Qian Shi Jie (NZ) (Keeper).

The new three-year-old race is a joint venture between NZB and Mr Lang Lin of the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Club.

Da Qian Shi Jie was the highest rated runner in the field, having won one of his two previous starts, and he proved his superiority with a breath-taking performance.

Ridden by the New Zealand jockey Alysha Collett for trainer Yu Jiankang, Da Qian Shi Jie raced in midfield before surging forward approaching the home turn and soaring clear. It turned into a one-horse race down the straight as Da Qian Shi Jie opened up a winning margin of more than five lengths in a dazzling display.

Little Bolt (NZ) (No Excuse Needed) finished second ahead of Meet By Chance (NZ) (Buffalo Man).

Da Qian Shi Jie was bred by Don Edwards and Margaret Fife. He is by Keeper out of the Blues Traveller mare Pearla (NZ), dam of winners Theruler (NZ) (Viking Ruler), Odin (NZ) (Viking Ruler), Rubee (NZ) (Keeper) and Blue Wagon (NZ) (Keeper). Da Qian Shi Jie was withdrawn from the 2015 Festival Sale.

Runner-up Little Bolt was bred by Kim and Terry Grant and was offered at the 2015 Ready to Run Sale by Cypress Point Stables. Rider Horse China purchased him there for $25,000.
