An hour before Werther (NZ) (Tavistock) did the New Zealand industry proud with a stunning Group 1 win at Sha Tin on Sunday, the Karaka graduate Debt Collector (NZ) (Thorn Park) also did his bit with a terrific performance in the S$350,000 Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) at Kranji.

Ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Cliff Brown, Debt Collector exploded out of an awkward position to sprint to the lead and race away to win by a length and a half.

“I’m very pleased with that win,” said Brown, who purchased the horse for $120,000 at the 2014 NZB Ready to Run Sale.

“Debt Collector has always shown ability from day one and the way he finished today did not surprise me.”

Owned by Barree Stable, Debt Collector has now had six starts for three wins and has earned more than S$200,000. His victories have come consecutively in his last three starts.

Debt Collector is now expected to target the Group 1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) on May 15.

Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Debt Collector is out of the stakes-placed In The Wings mare Prompt Payment. He went through the Karaka sale ring twice, fetching $30,000 as a yearling at the 2014 Select Sale before being presented by Prima Park at Ready to Run Sale as a two-year-old later that year.

Karaka graduates finished first, second and third in Sunday’s Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic. Runner-up Nova Strike (NZ) (Red Giant) was a $60,000 purchase at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale. The third placegetter Magnum (NZ) (Per Incanto) sold for $100,000 at the 2014 Premier Sale.
