KAINUI BELLE WINS EIGHT CARAT STAKES

Classy three-year-old filly Kainui Belle proved too good when taking out the Group 2 Eight Carat Stakes 1600m at Ellerslie on Derby Day.

The win by the Wayne and Vanessa Hillis trained runner took her New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year points to 21, just three behind series leader Taatletail.

Kainui Belle (Kashani x Lady Ukiah), who is raced by her breeders Phil & Jackie Rogers of Taupiri scored convincingly in a time of 1.33.87 and will now contest the New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes over 2000m at Ellerslie on the 2nd January 2004.

A win for Kainui Belle in the New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes would earn her 29 points and the lead in the NZB Filly of the Year Series. Kainui Belle was ridden to victory by Noel Harris.

Eftee One (Volksraad x Bashful Lady) finished 1-1/4 lengths back in second place scoring four points while Danette (Danske x Amynette) who finished � a length away in third place, scored two points for her efforts.

CLEAN SWEEP TAKES HOME $150,000 FILLIES BONUS

Two year old filly Clean Sweep's victory in the Mercedes Bonus Fillies Prelude saw her reward her owners by repaying her purchase price and some.

Clean Sweep (End Sweep x Eidercrown) won by a short neck over the 1100m journey on Boxing Day at Ellerslie. Summer Nymph (Danske x Nymphaea) finished second with pacemaker Iflooxcouldkill (Daggers Drawn x Hear's Hoping) � a length away in third.

Clean Sweep (End Sweep x Eidercrown) was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $20,000 from the draft of Raffles Farm at the 2003 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale and is trained by the Mike Moroney & Andrew Scott combination at Matamata. Clean Sweep was bred by Classic Bloodstock Ltd.

Derby Day's bonus race was the second of three big bonus races this summer. The highlight of the Super Bonus season is still to come, with the $500,000 Mercedes Classique at Te Rapa on 31 January 2004.
