Dowager Queen Another Stakes Winner for Savabeel

18 April 2011

It was a stakes double for Waikato Stud stallions on Saturday with Dowager Queen the latest stakes winner for her sire Savabeel in the Listed Network Visuals Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Ellerslie.

Trained by Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Dowager Queen (Savabeel x Dower) dealt to her rivals in the Ellerslie straight under James McDonald, hitting the lead at the 250 metre mark and running away to an easy two-and-a-half length win.

New Zealand Bloodstock graduates claimed their second trifecta of the day with Vittoria (Postponed x Eurotec) running into second and Richard (Chianti x Lugano) taking third after racing three wide in transit.

Dowager Queen bought up her second win on the weekend from eight race day appearances, and made it a winning double for trainers Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, with Sweet Suitor (Bachelor Duke x Holy Honey) bolting in in the 'NZB National Weanling & Broodmare Sale 2-4 May 3YO' (1200m).

Dowager Queen looks to be a serious prospect and was Group 1 placed behind Anabandana at her last start, and is the latest stakes winner for her sire Savabeel who is running hot at present.

The Cox Plate winning son of Zabeel had Scarlett Lady take out the Listed Matamata Breeders Stakes just over a week ago at Awapuni, and has had Do Ra Mi, Savabill and Kudakulari all winning at stakes level over the last few weeks.

Bought by the Two In One Syndicate from Dormello Stud in the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for $50,000, Dowager Queen has now won over $57,000 in stakes.

A full-sister to Dowager Queen, Molly Coco, will be offered by Dormello Stud (as agent) at the 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale at Lot 679.

The 2011 May Sale will include Dormello Stud's Unreserved Dispersal Sale featuring 119 lots including weanlings, broodmares, yearlings, two-year-olds and racehorses. Graeme Rogerson and Denise Howell's Hamilton-based Stud will be offering a selection of progeny by the in-form sire Savabeel and the young MVRC AAMI Vase winning son of Redoute's Choice in Duelled amongst their entries.

The 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale will be held at the Karaka Sale Complex from 2-4 May. For a catalogue please contact NZB on 09 298 0055 or [email protected].
