Entries Closing for Karaka 2013!

6 July 2012

New Zealand Bloodstock invites you to offer your yearlings for sale at Karaka 2013, with nominations for the 87th National Yearling Sales Series closing this Monday 9 July.

Demand for the young stock on offer at Karaka is rapidly on the rise as kiwi horses continue to showcase the NZ suffix on the world stage. The remarkable 17 Derby titles won around the world by New Zealand horses since 2010 is a testament to this success.

Most importantly, it was Karaka that provided the best returns to vendors in 2012. Yearlings by a host of local and international sires, with large drafts and small - the likes of Encosta de Lago, Fastnet Rock, High Chaparral, Pins, Pentire, Zabeel, and more - all averaged more at Karaka than at any other Australasian sale in 2012. So You Think Purchased

These leading sale ring results are driven by consistent top flight success across Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong in addition to here at home.

Added to that, New Zealand Bloodstock is the source of over 70 Group 1 winners in the past 5 seasons - the best record on any Australasian sales company - making Karaka an essential destination for thoroughbred buyers from around the globe.

Karaka Premier Sale: 28 & 29 January

The Karaka Premier Sale has a world class reputation, attracting buyers from ten countries to purchase yearlings in 2012, with over 70% of the Sale's aggregate coming from international buyers.

Leading buyers including David Ellis, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Gai Waterhouse, Bart Cummings, Duncan Ramage, Hawkes Racing and John O'Shea alone spent over $15 million at the Premier Sale earlier this year.

The Premier Sale has claimed multiple Group 1 winners over the past season, claiming race victories such as the G1 ARC Diamond Stakes, the G1 NZ 1000 & 2000 Guineas double, the G1 New Zealand Stakes, the G1 Queensland Derby and So You Think's Group 1 treble headed by his Royal Ascot victory in the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes.

Karaka Select Sale: 30 January - 1 February

The Karaka Select Sale is quickly becoming a Sale that buyers can't afford to miss. The results from this burgeoning session speak for themselves, with graduates such as nine-time Group 1 winner Mufhasa (Pentire), Hong Kong Horse of the Year Ambitious Dragon (Pins), Group 1 VRC Derby winner Sangster (Savabeel) and Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes winner Choice Bro (Choisir).

These results have not been lost on buyers and the amount of buyers that now stay for the Select session, or specifically target the Sale as a place to purchase their yearlings, is rapidly on the rise. The Hong Kong spend more than doubled from 2011 to 2012 to over $2.7 million this year, just one of nine countries who purchased yearlings from the Select Sale in 2012.

Entry fee: $1,100 + GST.
