30 July 2007

Onceuponatime (Van Nistelrooy x Scarlet Runner) continued what's been a superb season for New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale graduates, stylishly winning the Singapore Group 3 Magic Millions Juvenile Championship at Kranji on Friday.

The striking liver chestnut colt was ridden by Ronnie Stewart for trainer David Hill, finishing the 1200 metre event half-a-length ahead of Handsome Jazz (Show a Heart x Loopy) with fellow Karaka graduate, Raphael (Al Akbar x Miss Lewinsky), back in third.

Bred by Haunui Farm and Jim Otway, Onceuponatime was purchased by Hill from the Haunui draft at the 2006 Karaka Ready to Run Sale for NZ$60,000. Racing on just four occasions he has recorded two firsts and two third placings for his owners the All Star Stable.

Onceuponatime's victory is a highlight in a spate of successes for former Trelawney Stud shuttle sire Van Nistelrooy, a Group 2 winning son of Storm Cat. With just his first Southern Hemisphere crop to race, he's had stakes performer Vanny Fair and the promising Pit Lane from the Peter Moody stable in Australia.

Scarlet Runner, by Kingdom Bay, won four races during her career including the Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic. She is the dam of four foals with three to race, all of which are winners, and is in foal to Pins.

Fighting on down the outside for third came 2006 Karaka Festival Yearling Sale graduate Raphael. He was purchased by Brookby Stables for NZ$12,500 from Grangewilliam Stud.

Meanwhile in Macau, Ready to Run Sale graduate, Crown's Master (Last Tycoon x Ranghiroah) emerged the victor in the Macau Listed Summer Trophy (1200m) to record his fourth stakes win. He was purchased by Russell Cameron for Macau from successful Ready to Run Sale vendor Dean Hawthorne's Anzac Lodge in 2003 for NZ$70,000.

New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale has been soaring from strength to strength, claiming three Group 1 winners this season alone. These include HKJC Champions Mile winner Able One (Cape Cross x Gardenia), Queensland Oaks winner Eskimo Queen (Shinko King x Cold Type) and New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas winner Magic Cape (Magic Albert x Cape City).

Entry forms for the 2007 Ready to Run Sale are being posted today and entries close on 27 August 2007. This year's Sale will be held at Karaka on 20 & 21 November with Breeze-Ups conducted at Te Rapa Racecourse on 25 & 26 October.
