Fight for the Karaka Million Continues

The fight for a prized start in the $1 million Karaka Million (Res.L) is heating up with racing over the last two weeks seeing a number of horses solidify their places on the Order of Entry, and a number of new names make an appearance.

The latest horse to make an appearance at the top end of the Karaka Million Order of Entry – based on prize money earned – is Charlestown (Myboycharlie x Princess Carolina) who recorded an impressive victory at Woodville on Saturday in the $8,000 Crowley Forge Master Farriers Limited Juvenile (1100m).

The Lisa Latta trained two-year-old came into the race with $2,125 in stakes and raced away from his rivals in the straight to a 3.5 length victory, earning $5,000 and taking his total stakes earnings to $7,125.

Charlestown is raced by Go Racing Charliemyboy Syndicate and is the second horse raced by Albert Bosma’s Go Racing in the top 14 on the Karaka Million Order of Entry. The syndication also races the stakes winning filly Ruud Awakening (Bernardini) who currently holds second place with $42,500.

Group 3 Eclipse Stakes winner Gobi Ranger (Tale of the Cat) currently heads the Order of Entry with $49,550 in stakes.

Charlestown was bred by NZ Thoroughbred Holdings Ltd and was purchased by Go Racing Ltd from Westbury Stud at the Karaka Select Sale for $65,000. Westbury Stud will offer a half-brother to Charlestown by their resident sire Swiss Ace at the 2013 Select Sale at Lot 872.

There are now just seven two-year-old races left in New Zealand before the $1 million Karaka Million which will be held at Ellerslie at the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting on Sunday 27 January.
