20 January 2012

The final batch of video clips of yearlings heading to New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series are being posted online, including clips from The Oaks Stud, Brighthill Farm, Seaton Park and Phoenix Park.

Dick Karreman's The Oaks Stud has a draft of 51 yearlings heading to New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales, and will also see the first southern hemisphere yearlings by their young shuttle sire Sakhee's Secret offered at Karaka 2012.

A winner of the Group 1 July Cup, Sakhee's Secret was ranked Europe's Champion Sprinter and was the top colt on the 2007 World Turf Sprint Rankings. He has 43 yearlings at Karaka 2012.

Also standing at the Stud is the five-time Group 1 winner Darci Brahma, the sire of stakes winners in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, who has 65 yearlings in the Sales Series.

With a draft of 20 horses in the Premier Sale, The Oaks Stud's entries include:

  • Eight yearlings by Darci Brahma including Lot 113, the filly from the Group 3 winning mare Chant (Traditionally), and stud manager Rick Williams' pick, Lot 169, from the stakes-placed mare Dominant (Deputy Governor).
  • Lot 171, the half-sister by Sakhee's Secret to the winner of this season's Group 3 Eulogy Stakes in Zurella (Zabeel), the same family as champion sire Lonhro (Octagonal).

The home of New Zealand's Champion First Season Sire Perfectly Ready, Nick & Anne-Marie King's Brighthill Farm has a draft of 35 yearlings entered for Karaka 2012.

The farm's 2011 Karaka draft has already tasted success on the track with two-year-old Napatap winning the Listed Welcome Stakes in early November. The colt is nominated for the $85,000 Group 2 Little Avondale Stud Wakefield Challenge Stakes on Saturday.

Brighthill Farm's entries at Karaka 2012 include:

  • Lot 71, the colt by High Chaparral from the dual Group 1 winning Zabeel mare Bazelle.
  • Lot 124, the full sister to the dual Group 1 winner Eskimo Queen (Shinko King).

A stud that has had a strong year in the Karaka sales ring, Janine Dunlop's Phoenix Park celebrated a highly successful end to 2011 with its headline graduate Able One (Cape Cross) taking out one of the world's most prestigious 1600 metre events, the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile.

With 26 yearlings entered in Karaka 2012, Phoenix Park's draft features a strong line-up of sires from New Zealand and Australia including:

  • Lot 457, the half-brother by O'Reilly to the Group 3 winner Solid Billing (Rock of Gibraltar) and Group 1 placed Galileo Galaxy (Galileo) from the Group 2 winning Star Way mare Star Affair.
  • Lot 491, the colt by red-hot sire Fastnet Rock from the dual Group 1 winning O'Reilly mare The Jewel, dam of stakes placed The Glitzy One (Flying Spur) who ran third in this season's Listed Otago Breeders Stakes.

With graduates of Scott Eagleton's Seaton Park including the Group 1 VRC Derby and Group 1 Underwood Stakes winner Lion Tamer (Storming Home) and Group 1 winner Juice (Bertolini), the stud is showing it can deliver on the track. The stud is also getting great support in the sale ring, with master trainer Bart Cummings securing their High Chaparral colt from A Real Princess in 2011 for their draft-topping price of $470,000.

The stud will offer 36 yearlings at Karaka 2012 including:

  • Lot 153, the colt by Pentire from the Group 1 winning mare Deebee Belle (Bin Ajwaad).
  • Lot 306, the colt by Stravinsky from Magique Sky (Hurricane Sky).
