Final Karaka 2022 Trainers Series Results

24 February 2022

NZB's Karaka 2022 Trainers Series prize package has concluded.

New Zealand Bloodstock is pleased to announce the winners of their new incentive for New Zealand-based trainers wishing to purchase at its Karaka 2022 National Yearling Sales Series held from 7 to 12 March.

Five race meetings throughout New Zealand were selected for the Karaka 2022 Trainers Series. The trainer of each winning horse on the racecard of each meeting went into a draw at the end of the day to win a special prize package, should they wish to purchase at NZB’s National Yearling Sales Series in March.

The Karaka 2022 Trainers Series prize package consisted of:

  • 1 X travel voucher to the value of $1000
  • 1 X NZB Insurance voucher to a value (up to) $2000 allocated against a purchased lot

The final race meeting for the Prize Package was conducted Saturday 19 February at Ellerslie. The winning trainers drawn from the eight race card were Roger James and Robert Wellwood after Pinarello (NZ) (Tavistock) won the last race of the day in the $45,000 ECOCHILL (2100m).

The duo, who operate under their Kingsclere Stable banner, train the three-year-old on behalf of Cambridge Stud owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay.

The other four winning recipients of the Karaka 2022 Trainers Series are:

  • Lance Robinson won on 20 January at Riccarton with four-year-old mare Mianna (NZ) (He’s Remarkable) breaking her maiden over 1600 metres.
  • Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman secured their prize package on 29 January at Trentham after Current Surge (NZ) (Shocking) won a rating 65 benchmark over 2200 metres.
  • Andrew Carston claimed his prize package after winning the Group Three White Robe Lodge Stakes (1600m) at Wingatui on 5 February with his performer Hasabro (NZ) (Savabeel).
  • Stephen Marsh won the fourth prize package at Te Rapa on 12 February after Miss Cartier (NZ) (El Roca) took out a rating 65 benchmark (1300m).

NZB Insurance Advisor Jim Bruford commented on the incentive aimed to support New Zealand trainers.

“We know a number of trainers are keen to purchase the next yearling crop from NZB for their stables and we are pleased to assist in a small way to help minimise the costs of attending Karaka 2022.”

“We look forward to supporting these trainers attending the sales in the next couple of weeks and anticipate them finding their next winning performer from our 96th National Yearling Sales Series.” Bruford said.
