Four Straight for Power O'Raylee

16 January 2012

The last race at Flemington on Saturday, the Jezabeel Handicap (2000m), saw the South Island Sale graduate Power O'Raylee take her fourth straight victory for her trainer Peter Moody.

A mare that has proven a consistent performer, Power O'Raylee (O'Reilly x La Banca) stepped up to 2000 metres for just the second time in her career and showed little trouble in running out the trip with jockey Luke Nolen aboard, taking the last on the card by almost three lengths.

A four-year-old daughter of O'Reilly, Power O'Raylee has won four of her five starts this preparation by a combined total of over seven lengths, running sixth fresh up over 1312 metres at Geelong in mid-November, and winning all of her races since.

Having placed in a further five of her 12 career starts, Power O'Raylee raced well at three without taking a win but was never further back than fifth in all her three-year-old performances which included four seconds.

Bred by Keith Neylon, she was the top priced lot at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2009 South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds where she was purchased by John Foote Bloodstock from Grange Farm for $95,000. She has now won just shy of A$130,000.

O'Reilly has 68 yearlings in New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series, with 57 in the Premier Sale including:

  • Lot 394, the half-brother to the Group 1 VRC Derby winner Amalfi (Carnegie) from the Centaine mare Rationaine, the grand-dam of current Group 1 performer Antonio Lombardo (Pins). The O'Reilly/Centaine cross has produced 17 individual stakes winners.
  • Lot 514, the brother to stakes winner Salsa, and half-brother to Group 3 winner Somepin Anypin (Pins) and stakes winner Rule of Engagement (Danasinga) from the Centaine mare Ungaro.

A half-brother to Power O'Raylee by Red Ransom was purchased by Trent Busuttin at New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale in November for $230,000. Now named Hamacho, the colt has had just one outing to the races for his trainer.

New Zealand Bloodstock's 2012 National Yearling Sales Series is set to commence on Monday 30 January at 10am. For news and sales information visit www.nzb.co.nz.
