Full field for G3 Desert Gold Stakes for NZB’s Filly Series

The sixth leg of New Zealand Bloodstock’s Filly of the Year Series will be held this Saturday with the $70,000 Group 3 Wellfield Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) at Trentham.

The sixth leg in the 10-race NZB Filly of the Year Series has attracted a full field of 18 fillies on Saturday.

The Desert Gold Stakes will also be the second leg of the Wellfield Lodge Triple Crown Series. The first leg was won by Coldplay (NZ) (Savabeel) in the Group 3 LawnMaster Eulogy Stakes back in December. The final leg will take place in March in the Group 1 Wellfield New Zealand Oaks, which is also the last leg of the Filly of the Year Series.

Points are awarded for each of the three legs and at the culmination of the Series the leading filly will receive a service to Alamosa, the runner-up filly will receive a service to Road to Rock, both stallions stand at Wellfield Lodge.

Capella (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) is the highest rated horse in the field with three wins from just five career starts. The Danica Guy trained filly is second in the Filly of the Year Series after an impressive win in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic on Boxing Day. Drawn barrier 11, she will be ridden by Mark Du Plessis.

A daughter of Wellfield Lodge-based stallion Alamosa, Strada Cavallo (NZ), finished second in the Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas in November. The Graham Richardson-trained filly has Chris Johnson aboard and they have drawn barrier 7.

Also from the Graham Richardson stable is Lauberhorn (NZ) (Swiss Ace), a last start winner at Tauranga. The daughter of Swiss Ace will have Mark Hills aboard and they have drawn barrier 8.

Waikato Stud bred Maritimo (NZ) (Pins) is the winner of three races including the Group 3 Wellesley Stakes as a juvenile and was a winner two starts ago. Lee Magorrian rides the Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained filly, starting from barrier 18.

Sired by New Zealand’ s leading stallion Savabeel is Coldplay, the winner of the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes two starts back. She has drawn barrier four for leading rider Opie Bosson and trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman.

The Lisa Latta trained Bella Court (NZ) (Per Incanto) fought on well for fifth in the Group 1 Levin Classic last start following a consistent run of three second placings. The Per Incanto filly has drawn wide at barrier 17.

Deebee Panache (NZ) (Darci Brahma) has won her two races from three starts including her last start at Awapuni. Rosie Myers will ride and they have drawn barrier 9 for trainer Jeff Lynds.

Another Savabeel filly is Goodsav (NZ) (Savabeel), a winner of her first two races for trainer Patrick Campbell. She was unplaced in the Group 3 Wellington Stakes then ran third last start. She has drawn barrier 12.

The third Savabeel in field which contains five horses by the sire is Chic (NZ), a winner of two races from seven starts. She has drawn barrier 2 and will have Jonathan Riddell in the saddle.

The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards trained Dutchess Kate (NZ) (Savabeel) has won two from six starts including an impressive victory last start at Ellerslie. Another filly by Savabeel, she will be ridden by Matthew Cameron from barrier 13.

A winner two starts ago was Starstripe (Starcraft). She has won two races and placed in three more from nine starts. Trained by Mike Moroney and Chad Ormsby, she has drawn barrier 5.

Ths Lance Noble trained Fame Seeker (NZ) (Showcasing) was a winner three starts ago and has since been placed in the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes and finished fourth in the Group Royal Stakes. Grant Cooksley takes the mount, starting from barrier 3.

The final filly by Savabeel in the field is Black Sav (NZ) (Savabeel), a winner on debut in November. She has drawn barrier 10 for trainer Lisa Latta and will carry the colours of Go Racing Syndications.

A winner on debut last month was Hot In High Heels (High Chaparral). She then finished an unlucky third last start, two weeks ago. Cameron Lammas rides the Phillip Stevens trained filly from barrier 6.

Another winner on debut was Alarmist (NZ) (Shocking), winning as a juvenile. The Dick & Chris Bothwell trained filly will have the services of Dylan Turner and they will jump from barrier 16.

A daughter of Per Incanto, Morris Lass (NZ), won two starts back, her first win in four starts. She has drawn barrier 1 for trainer Gary Vile.

The Shaune Ritchie trained Vitesse (NZ) (Makfi) has won one race and placed three times from five starts and has raced greenly in her starts. She has drawn the outside barrier of 19.

Rounding out the field is Firebird Flyer (NZ) (Stravinsky), still a maiden after two starts. Masakazu Tanaka rides the Jeff Lynds trained filly from barrier 14.

The winner if the Group 3 Wellfield Desert Gold Stakes will earn 6 points towards the 10-races series, second place will earn 3 points and third place will receive 1.5 points.

The NZB Filly of the Year Series is led by 1000 Guineas winner Risque (NZ) (Darci Brahma) with 12 points.
