Gift of Power (NZ) (Power) strengthened her position at the top of the Order of Entry for the 2017 Karaka Million (1200m) when she extended her unbeaten career record to three from three in Saturday’s $100,000 Group 2 Wellington Seamarket Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1100m).

Following the filly’s hard-fought nose victory over Hasahalo (NZ) (Savabeel) in Saturday’s feature, Gift of Power has now earned $96,875 in prize-money. She had previously won a $10,000 event at Wanganui and the $50,000 Listed Wellesley Stakes (1000m) at Trentham.

That gives her a substantial lead over any other two-year-old in the Karaka Million Order of Entry, with Talaria (NZ) (O’Reilly) a distant second with $31,250.

Hasahalo is also Karaka Million-eligible and earned $20,000 for Saturday’s second placing. That places her in third position on the Order of Entry.

Melody Belle (NZ) (Commands) finished third on Saturday and has now earned $14,375, sitting in fifth position on the Order of Entry.

More Karaka Million candidates will have the chance to move up the table when they line up in a two-year-old race over 1100 metres at Te Rapa next Saturday. The race carries a purse of $30,000, including $18,750 to the winner.
