Gypsy Babe Clinches Eulogy From Stablemate

16 December 2002

It was a Moroney & Scott quinella in Saturday's Gr.3 Robertson Holden Eulogy Stakes ($40,000 1600m) at the Manawatu RC.

The Mike Moroney & Andrew Scott trained Gypsy Babe (Blues Traveller x Console) dashed home to win over her stablemate Bailey's On Ice (O'Reilly x Crme Anglaise) by 1 lengths, with third place going to the Noel Eales trained representative Charmaine (Centaine x Charmante).

Both Gypsy Babe and Bailey's On Ice will race each other again in the near future, having been nominated for two further New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year races, the Eight Carat Classic at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, and the New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on January 18.

Owned by GKV Holdings of Auckland, Gypsy Babe now has 6 points on the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year points table, making her fourth equal with Danceinthesun and Molly Dot Com.

The Eulogy marks the midway point in the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series and with 5 races and plenty of points still up for grabs it is clearly anyone's race to secure the coveted title.

The current points table for the 2002-03 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year now stands as follows:

The Jewel 12
Volksini 10.5
Chestpeak 7
Danceinthesun 6
Gypsy Babe 6
Molly Dot Com 6
Bailey's On Ice 3
Country Class 3
Original Sin 2
Charmaine 1.5
Midnight Call 1.5

The next race in the series is the Gr.2 Eight Carat Classic at Auckland Racing Club on Thursday 26th December.
