Hot Field For Final Race Of New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly Of The Year

23 April 2003

The final race in the 2002-03 New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series has attracted a field of exciting fillies for Saturday's New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at the Canterbury Jockey Club.

Two fillies in particular, aiming to take home the notable title of New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year are Peter and Dawn Williams trained filly Tonic (Blues Traveller x Sent to War), and Michael Pitman and Chris Harris trained Royal Show (Deputy Governor x Bluebird Dancer).

Tonic currently heads the points table for the Series with 14 points after being successful in winning the New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes in February and the New Zealand Bloodstock Leasing Stakes at her last start earlier this month.

Royal Show has had one win in the Series, with success in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes last month. She also ran second to Tonic at her last start giving her 10 points in the Series so far. To win the title Royal Show needs to win on Saturday.

Also in the field for Saturday is Mandy Brown trained filly Rayonner (Wallenda x Irradiate) who ran a nice third last time out behind Tonic and Royal Show.

Other runners in the field with recent winning form include Ross Beckett trained Kizkardes (Hadaad x Political Economy) who has had three wins in her last four starts, Paul Harris trained The Mossa Lear (Oregon x Confer), Pam Robson & Ross McNeil trained pair Kinellan (Yachtie x Plaid) and Sandpiper (Sandtrap x Glenplay), Shane Marr trained Shima (Shinko King x Angie Beaufort), and a second runner for Michael Pitman and Chris Harris, Kiwi Flair (Brocco x Western Invasion).

The points allocated to each race in the series are 7 points for first, 3 points for second and 1 point for third.
