Jazzella Hits Queensland

The speedy Karaka Select Sale graduate Jazzella (Black Minnaloushe x Jazzmatazz by Citidancer) fought hard in the Listed Silk Stocking Stakes (1400m) on the Gold Coast on Saturday for a thrilling deadheat with local runner, Calchris.

Trained at Ruakaka by Dean and Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs, the four-year-old mare headed to Australia for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival however headed north to Queensland last week in search of better ground.

Jazzella was secured by co-trainer Donna Logan at the 2005 Karaka Select Sale from Deb Walter's Karaka Downs draft for NZ$40,000.

Bred by Hallmark Properties Ltd, she has now raced on 16 occasions for six wins including the Group 3 ARC Darley Plate and the Group 3 Windsor Park Stud Breeders' Stakes plus three placings. Her prizemoney is now well on its way to NZ$300,000.

Jazzmatazz won the Listed CJC Welcome Stakes and is the dam of four to race for three winners.  Her yearling colt by Keeper was sold for NZ$130,000 at the Karaka Select Sale this January.

The Jazzella team are now planning on a 17 May start in the Listed Glenlogan Park Lady of the Turf Stakes (1350m) at Doomben, hoping to go one better than her second placing behind Storm Signal in the race last year.
