Jochen Rindt (NZ) (Ishiguru) scored a runaway win in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed Woods Contracting Taumarunui Gold Cup (2200m) at Rotorua, providing an outstanding return for his breeder and part-owner Mandy Walters.

Walters paid just $600 for the Kessem mare Kessem’s Dream (NZ) at the 2009 New Zealand Bloodstock Mixed Bloodstock Sale at Karaka. At that time the mare was in-foal to Ishiguru, and Jochen Rindt was the resulting foal.

Jochen Rindt led all the way in Saturday’s race and powered clear in the straight to win by 11 lengths, boosting his record to five wins and $70,660 in stakes from 24 starts. The seven-year-old gelding is raced by Walters and her partner Terry Wenn, who trains the horse in Cambridge, along with Don Grayling.

Kessem’s Dream has produced two winners from five foals to race, and both have scored at stakes level. Older sibling Gurus Dream (NZ) (Ishiguru) was a debut winner in New Zealand before relocating to Hong Kong and Macau, where he won another five races including the Listed Macau Hong Kong Trophy.
