He fell short of his $60,000 reserve at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale, but Cylinder Beach (NZ) (Showcasing) has now earned almost A$250,000 after winning Saturday’s A$100,000 Recognition Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Luke Tarrant for trainer Desleigh Forster, Cylinder Beach produced a big sprint to come from well back and score by a length and a half. It was a big win for Tarrant, who has recently returned to the track.

“It’s great to be back riding in big races aboard good horses such as Cylinder Beach,” he said.

Cylinder Beach has now had 11 starts for three wins, three placings and A$247,650 in prize-money.

The Recognition Stakes was Cylinder Beach’s second stakes win, having won the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1630m) in April. He also placed in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m).

Bred by Tim Harrison, Cylinder Beach is one of three winners out of the Rainbow Quest mare Queen’s Colours – a half-sister to the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) winner The Offer (Montjeu).

Cylinder Beach was offered by Te Runga Stud at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale, but didn’t meet his $60,000 reserve. He is now owned by C R Lees, M T Doquile, Dr T M Schramm, P M O'Neill, D J O'Neill, M A Lenarduzzi, D J Mulvenna, D J Cleary, D J Lynch and B J Hastie.
