Karaka Graduate Listen (NZ) Wins Selangor Gold Cup
6 April 2016
Six-year-old Iffraaj gelding Listen (NZ) scored the sixth win of his career when he took out the 220,000 Rgt. Listed Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) on Sunday.
Ridden by Yundanyl Aify for expat New Zealand trainer Anna Scott, Listen raced in midfield before unleashing a withering finish down the straight. He slowly but surely ran down the brave runner-up Star Quality (Flying Pegasus) and edged away in the last few strides to win by half a length.
Listen was bred by Archer Corporation Ltd and is out of the Centaine mare Daydream (NZ). The dam is a three-quarter sister to the stakes-winning Fleur De Chine (NZ) (Centaine), dam of stakes winners Tully Thunder (Thunder Gulch) and Sufficient (NZ) (Zabeel).
Offered at the 2010 NZB National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale by Hallmark Stud, Listen was purchased by Mulcaster Bloodstock for $50,000. He has now had 27 starts for six wins, nine placings and prize-money earnings of 198,591 Rgt. and S$149,193.
