Karaka Million Looming Large

21 January 2013

With the Karaka Million less than a week away, the field is all but finalised with Charlestown securing his spot after running second in the $85,000 Group 2 Little Avondale Wakefield Challenge Stakes on Saturday.

Trained by Lisa Latta for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing Charliemyboy Syndicate, Charlestown (Myboycharlie x Princess Carolina) came into Saturday’s race sitting on the brink of entry, but not assured of a spot in the $1 million race.

After winning impressively at Woodville last start, he stepped up to Group 2 status and acquitted himself well, beaten only by fellow Karaka graduate Recite (Darci Brahma) who looks to have a big future ahead of her.

Anthony Freedman’s filly Minaj (Commands) has also arrived in the country and will have her first look at the Ellerslie track this week ahead of Sunday’s race, a tactic that worked perfectly for last year’s winner Ockhams Razor (Any Suggestion) from the same stable. She is scheduled to take to the Ellerslie track at 7am tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

Tune into Radio Trackside at 11:45am on Wednesday morning for the live barrier draw.

The $1 million Karaka Million will be held at the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting at Ellerslie on the eve of the Karaka Premier Sale this coming Sunday 27 January. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
