Karaka Select & Festival Sale Catalogues Now Online

New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2013 Karaka Select and Festival Sale catalogues are now available online.

The second session of Karaka Sales Week - the Karaka Select Sale – is set to feature 611 yearlings over the three-day Sale starting on Wednesday 30 January.  The third session – the Karaka Festival Sale – sees 440 yearlings catalogued over the final two days (Sunday 3 & Monday 4 February).

When it comes to value with no compromise on track success, the Karaka Select Sale is in a league of its own. With an average Sale price of under NZ$50,000 for the last five years, the Select session has produced 67 individual stakes winners since the start of the 2010/11 season, and this tally is growing by the week.

However, there is another factor that sets this Sale apart and that is its record at Group 1 level. 

Since the beginning of the 2010/11 season the Karaka Select Sale has produced no less than 15 individual Group 1 winners that have won a total of 26 Group 1 races in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

These 15 elite graduates have won between them a Cox Plate, the last two Hong Kong Miles, the VRC, Australian & Hong Kong Derbies, the New Zealand, Queensland & VRC Oaks, the NZ 1000 & Australian Guineas, the Futurity Stakes and the Toorak Handicap.

These 15 Group 1 winners have also averaged over NZ$2.2 million in stakes earnings.

This season alone has seen the Select Sale claim three Group 1 winners already: the four-time Group 1 & 2012 Cox Plate winner Ocean Park (NZ) (Thorn Park), the now 10-time Group 1 winner (King) Mufhasa (NZ) (Pentire), and the tough three-year-old filly Rollout the Carpet (Holy Roman Emperor).

The Select Sale is renowned for featuring progeny by a wide range of sires from around the world and the 2013 offering is in keeping with this tradition with 77 individual sires represented.

Karaka Festival Sale

The 2013 Karaka Festival Sale is back to its original two-day format with a catalogue of 440 yearlings – up 132 entries on last year.

The Festival Sale has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in recent times with its graduates headlined by the HK-1 Hong Kong Derby winner Fay Fay (Falkirk). He has been well supported with a host of two-year-old stakes winners including Silver City (Nothing to Lose), Napatap (Patapan) and Swiper the Fox (Align).

And with other stakes winners including the smart mare Zennista (Zenno Rob Roy), Group 2 winning sprinter Durham Town (Falkirk), High Kin (High Chaparral) and Amberio (Captain Rio), the Festival Sale has had a good share of success on the track.
