Lim's Kosciuszko Scores Record-Breaking Win

22 May 2023

Singapore's sensational Karaka graduate Lim's Kosciuszko (Kermadec) showed all of his superstar qualities in Saturday's $1m Kranji Mile (1600m), blowing his rivals away and setting a new track record.

The colt was offered at Karaka 2019 and again at the Ready to Run Sale later that year, Lim's Kosciuszko has now earned more than S$1.55m from an 18-start career that has produced 14 wins and two second placings.

The Kranji Mile was among his most impressive performances yet, exploding to the front with a scintillating burst of speed at the 350-metre mark. The race was immediately over as a contest, and Lim's Kosciuszko was in a league of his own.

The winning margin shrank in the closing stages of the race and was only a length and a quarter at the finish line, but it was nevertheless a commanding and comprehensive victory.

Lim's Kosciuszko stopped the clock at 1:32.81, breaking the previous track record of 1:33.25 that was set in the same race last year.

"He’s a privilege and pleasure to train,” trainer Daniel Meagher said. “I’m very lucky to have him.

"He’s a super horse, did everything we asked him to do and basically trained himself. We just had to point him in the right direction.

“A big thanks to (track rider) Razif (Rahman) who rides him, (groom) Sham who looks after him and everybody at the stable. It’s just a great privilege to train a horse like this for Mr Lim.

“It was a bit different from his last race. He had a little issue going into that, hence we only gave him one trial, but everything happens for a reason and this time everything went really smoothly.

“He pleased us in every piece of work. Like I said, he’s not difficult, we just had to make sure he eats, sleeps and exercises. He’s an absolute pleasure.”

Out of the Listed winner and Group Two-placed Jacquetta (NZ) (Keeper), Lim's Kosciuszko was bred by Trelawney Stud and offered by them at Karaka. His reserve was only $75,000 in Book 1 of Karaka 2019 and $60,000 at the Ready to Run Sale.
