27 February 2003

The up and coming New Zealand bred three year old Palette Natural (Volksraad x Proteaceae) was the determined winner of yesterday's class 3 $HK700,000
P & O Challenge Cup (1650m) at Hong Kong's Happy Valley.

Aided by the services of premiership leading ex-pat jockey Shane Dye, Palette Natural scored a comfortable length victory over the Australian bred Czar of Prussia (Belong to Me x Prefer An Angel) with the American horse Fortune Life (West by West x Blond Bomber) a close third.

The promising son of Volksraad was purchased at the 2001 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale by New Zealand Bloodstock on behalf of Hong Kong clients for $140,000 from the draft of Te Mania Thoroughbreds.

The John Size trained gelding is fashioning a very useful record in Hong Kong, with two wins, three seconds and a third from just eight race day outings suggesting the youngster has a bright future ahead of him.
