NZ Ready to Run Sale Topper Stars at Caulfield

28 June 2012

The top priced lot from NZB's Ready to Run Sale last year, Demasheen looks to have a bright future as she produced an eye-catching performance at Caulfield yesterday breaking her maiden at just her third start.

A two-year-old daughter of the hot sire Fastnet Rock, Demasheen (ex Shimo Star) provided the highlight of the record 2011 Ready to Run Sale when purchased from Esker Lodge for $450,000 by Justin Bahen Bloodstock on behalf of owner Phil Sly.

Trained by Robert Smerdon, the daughter of Fastnet Rock looked every bit a rising talent at Caulfield yesterday over the 1000 metre trip. Trapped four wide with cover at the tail of the field, jockey Danny Nikolic brought her widest on the turn and once she straightened it was all over as she cruised down the outside to a classy one-and-a-quarter length victory.

Demasheen came into the race fresh up after a five month spell. Her first campaign saw her run second on debut after jumping awkwardly at Mooney Valley, before running a good fifth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview, running the last 600 metres in 34.29 seconds.

Owner Phil Sly, who also shares in the ownership of the brilliant filly Mosheen (Fastnet Rock), could not speak highly enough of Demasheen when he purchased her at the Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds last year.

"She's a stunner," said Sly. "She literally ticks all the boxes - there are 11 boxes to tick on my list and she ticks all of them. She breezed up beautifully and was very relaxed, she's a real lady."

Demasheen is from the Group 3 placed Centaine mare Shimo Star and is the 12th Australian two-year-old winner for her sire Fastnet Rock this season.

Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock's 2012 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds will be sent out on 17 July and will close on 17 August.
